  • Double irrigating?

    Has this been scrapped or what? I couldn't find anything on it in the Civilopedia...if so, that really sucks....

    This has been replaced by railroads giving a food bonus. For example, an irrigate dessert tile with a road on it produces 1/1/1. After building a railroad on the tile, the tile produces 2/1/1. It follows the same pattern for other tiles too.

      Don't RR's also give an extra shield?

      Hence irrigated desert --> road --> RR = 1/1/0 --> 1/1/1 --> 2/2/1.

        in the Civilopedia it only says that RR's give an extra shield, no mention of a food bonus. Joey703, have you seen first-hand that they increase food production?

          I have seen it first hand. RR does give bonus food and shield. Which one it gives depends on the terrain. Terrain types that are primarily food will have extra food, while terrain types that are primarily shields will have extra shield.

            Yep, just noticed it. Thanx. Why this is in the Civiopedia is beyond me. Yet one more thing to be corrected in a patch...

              yeah they give extra shields if there's a mine on the tile. For example, desert tile with mine, road = 0/2/1. After placing a railroad on the tile, the tile produces 0/3/1.

                does this mean we have to bear with the same irrigation systems in the future as in the past? or do at least the graphics change over the time?

                    This seems to be a return to the original Civ, in that railroads yielded extra food, shields, and trade arrows. Civ II brought in the Supermarket and Superhighway to handle the food and trade arrows functions, respectively.

                      now that is not good. I had supposed at least a change in graphics, I thought the supermarket / Farmland upgrade to be a technological necessity in the development of the game... and now this!

                        I assume they ditched farm/irrigation partly because big cities could still continue to grow quickly with Longevity.

                          In Civ2, upgrading irrigation to farmland did not do anything. You had to do that, and get a supermarket in your city Then it would double it. I guess Firaxis just let go of the farmland, but kept the supermarket and its effect
