Hey! We finally encountered another civ!

I probably won't have time to play my turn tonight, but we'll see. If I don't I'll be finished by 3 or 4 CST tomorrow afternoon.

I finished my turn, but I'm not going to be able to write up a summary tonight. I e-mailed fsck the screenshots, so hopefully they'll be ready by the time I'm able to write it up.

Pics uploaded, although I had to kind of guess at the filename format (your zip file had them all uppercase, but your previous pictures were Ulower format, so that's what I used).

I will be out of town all weekend, so I won't be able to take my turn or handle screenshots until Monday morning. It's OK to skip me, if others can go before then.

The palace gates gave in with a mighty crack. The mighty iron gates were wrenched from the hinges as the tide of flesh surged through. The castle guards retreated into the castle, overwhelmed by the mass of hoes, pitchforks, and axes wielded carelessly, but lethally. The revolutionaries tore through the palace pursuing the fleeing guards, laying torch to all that could be burned. As the flames gutted the castle, the guards ran for their lives, outnumbered and outfought. Only Vovansim himself stayed to fight.

The mob crowded around him, pinning him in a corner. But rather than tear him to pieces, the mob stopped, apparently unwilling to pursue him further. For seconds that seemed to be hours, a tense stalemate reigned. Then, from the rabble, a man stepped forth brandishing a sword. In the darkness, he seemed to carry his own light, an aura that shone about him in the moonless night.

Vovansim lunged at him with a might swing of his broadsword. The man parried the blow swiftly, shifting his weight back then twirling about slashing his sword. Vovansim brought his sword about to shield the blow. With a resounding clang the swords collided and flew from their hands into the on-looking crowd.

As the flames from the burning palace grew near, Vovansim fell upon the other with animal viciousness. The mob fled the towering flames leaving the two men inside the inferno, each still set upon the destruction of the other. Soon, they could not be seen through the raging fires and the billowing smoke.

The smell of smoke filled the air. The burning palace lit the night sky, an enormous effigy to a dead king, a dead tyrant, and a dead era. From the midst of the flames came the man, seemingly unaffected by the firestorm that swirled around him. A beam of light streaked from the heavens, enveloping him in its radiance. The reign of Vovansim the Cruel had ended.

Long live Excelsior Deus, the God King! Leader of the Russian People!

          Turn #1>730BC
The God King decrees that a road shall be built to connect the newly founded city of Gamma to the rest of the Russian Empire. He further decrees that a road shall be built to connect Lurkburg to Vovanville.
          Turn #2>710BC
The Russian people have discovered the secrets of Mysticism! The God King decrees that his sages should begin work on Map Making, so that the Russian people may learn to navigate the seas.
          Turn #3-4>690-670BC
The God King marries the God Queen. He declares a national holiday in celebration.
          Turn #5>650BC
The city of Excelsior completes the Royal Temple. The God King calls for volunteers in Excelsior to join the Royal Ditchdiggers.
          Turn #6>630BC
Vovanville completes the training of another Ditchdigging Corps. Delta finishes training a local band of warriors for service in the town's defense and begins to train another Ditchdigging Corps.
          Turn #7>610BC
The God King is pleased to see that the Ditchdigging Corps has completed the road from Beta to Vovanville. The city of Alpha revolts! The citizens of Alpha are still angry because of their treatment under Vovansim the Cruel. The God King directs the city to begin a public theater program to calm the populace. The city of Excelsior completes a Ditchdigging Corps and begins to train pioneers.

          Turn #8>590BC
Alpha completes a settler; the formerly unhappy people of Alpha set off to begin a new life elsewhere. Meanwhile, in the city, more emigration is looming. Beta completes the training of a Spearman Corps that is sent west to reinforce the city of Vovanville. The road from Lurkburg to Vovanville has been completed, as has the road to Gamma; the God King expresses his satisfaction with the efficiency of the Royal Ditchdiggers. He directs them to now connect Vovanville to Delta. He also directs them to begin irrigating the area surrounding Gamma.
          Turn #9,10, & 11>570-530BC
A God Prince is born, but dies within the year. Two God Princesses are born thereafter, but neither lives to come of age. Unhappy with his failing marriage, the God King takes a mistress. Meanwhile, the Royal Ditchdiggers continue to toil for the good of Russia.
          Turn #12>510BC
The city of Epsilon is founded near Beta. The city begins the training of spearmen to defend the city from barbarians and invaders.

          Turn #13>490BC
The city of Gamma completes a Spearman defense force and begins training a Ditchdigging Corps. Emigration from Excelsior proceeds apace as a new group of settlers sets out into the wild unknown. The God King's advisors report that corruption in the outer cities of the Russian Empire has reached such intolerable levels that building a Forbidden Palace would be advisable.
          Turn #14-15>470-450BC
The Royal Ditchdiggers continue their labors, but this an otherwise boring time.
          Turn #16>430BC
Delta completes the training of a new Ditchdiggers Corps and begins the construction of a great temple to honor the God King Excelsior Deus.
          Turn #17>410BC
Word comes that a distant people known as the Germans have built The Oracle! The God King is not pleased.

          Turn #18>390BC
Gamma trains a Ditchdigging Corps and begins the construction of a shrine to the God King. The God King receives word that the Royal Treasury is losing money! The monetary policies that have been in place since the reign of Vovansim or even earlier are hopelessly out of date and must be replaced. The God King lowers the science rate to 60%.
          Turn #19>370BC
Alpha sends out more pioneers. The God King decides to commission a great work in his honor. A magnificent colossus shall be built in the city of Alpha. The colossus shall forever stand as a testament to the greatness of the God King!
          Turn #20>350BC
Not satisfied with merely one monument in his honor, the God King decrees that an enormous pyramid shall be constructed to glorify the God King for all eternity. The pyramid begins construction in the city of Excelsior.

Not long thereafter, the Russian Mystics report that they have divined the secret of Map Making. Soon, the Russian people will control the seas! The God King demands that they begin work on an idea he discovered while visiting the English years ago, The Wheel.

The God King was now in failing health, his constant coughing heralding his imminent demise. One morning he was found lifeless in his bed, his journey through life now completed. Excelsior Deus, the God King was dead. In a final act of reverence for their fallen God, a group of Russian settlers found a new city and christen it "Excelsior Memorialis."

The state of the world in 350BC:

I don't know how that happened. When they left me they were in ULower format. I even checked to be sure. Oh, the "Mapmaking.jpg" was actually intended to be "Mapmakng.jpg." I use 8 character names mostly and mapmaking is 9 characters so I trimmed it. I still use file manager (its so much better than explorer) and it can't handle filenames greater than 8 characters.

If Lurking finishes before Monday then maybe you can swap places with Vovansim for this turn. Is that all right with you Vovansim?

              Legends of Czar Goat!

Lurking is rumored to have fathered some sons by a barbarian woman sometime after he went missing on a "great quest." The decendants of these children are the people know know as "Farm Tribe." Among these barbaric people a true leader emerged. He was known as Goat. With Goat's large geographic influence, the leadership of Russia welcomed him as a new ruler. They assumed he would have as much good judgement as his forebearers. His russian reign follows:

330BC - Settlers from established russian cities head north to found new townships. Russian warriors patrol to area in search of suitable building sites.

290BC - Beta produces a new group of settlers who wait for escort to head west toward Lurkburg.

270BC - Lurkburg produces the 1st russian galley!

250BC - Warriors and group of russian people intent of settling a new landmass load onto the rickety galley. Hopefully we can find some important resources on this landmass. Russian wisemen assume that the "Wheel" will now be feasible. The begin to look into a new beast known as a "horse".

230BC - The settlers and group of warriors land on the new island/continent west of Lurkburg!

210BC - The galley sails south after dropping off the russian people. The galley's crew makes contact with some English military in a coastal city. They report that the English have tons of scientific advances that the barbaric Russian government has never even imagined...

190BC - Czar Goat sends word to give the English whatever they demand as long as we get a few new technologies. The russian Czar gets a decent deal, aquiring Mathematics, Code of Laws, and Literature. The great Czar Goat has to give up his world map and some gold for this exchange. He seems satisfied for now.

170BC - New Excelsior founded on English continant. Barbarians surrond the city quickly. Will the primitive warrior defends be enough for the new city?

130BC - Workers bring irrigation through Epsilon. The Czar nods his head in approval, one day the great russian irrigation network will reach as far west as Lurkburg.

50BC - Russian settlers, escorted by a small group of spearmen head out of Gamma aboard the old russian galley. "Go East!" screams Czar Goat, "found a new city in my great grandfather's name!"

30BC - Russian settlers, along with their new friends in the russian military, land on the new eastern landmass. What will this hold for us?

10BC - Czar Goat receives devistating news. Egyptians have completed the Great Pyramids!

AD10 - New Lurkburg founded on the Eastern continent. The good news reaches Czar Goat just in time. The shaman predict the Czar will only last a year at most...

AD30 - The great capital of Excelsior switches production to the Great Wall, the old czar dies peacefully. The legacy of the Russians continue...

              eastern section:

Good work. The English seemed a lot more stingy during my reign. They asked for my world map plus 90 gold (my entire treasury) just for The Wheel!

The God King declares a crusade! Excelsior vult!

Really, that stinks. Funny that the Egyptians built the Pyramids, though.

You switched to the Great Wall? Why not the Great Library? It is far more useful than the Great Wall even with a tech lead simply because it keeps the AI from getting free technology.

                  The great whatever

I also think the Great Library would be good. In retrospect, I think I would have switched to the Great Library. I have a feeling we'll get either one or the other, and the Great Library would be a plus since we're a bit behind in technology. To my successor:

We must expand on both continents. I left New Excelsior, on the western continant (with the English), undefended. I sent a warrior over with the settler, but right after I built the city.... the barbarian hordes decended. They killed the warrior defender and are now plundering without shame. We need to get a spearman over there ASAP.

Keep the game moving at this speedy pace! It'll be a challege to win in this game. Our Russian people are developing decently, considering our crappy starting position.

Sorry, I had lots of things to do and didn't have time to check this thread. So, I didn't know that it was my turn already. Sorry for the delays. I have finished my turn now, though.

                      Vovansim II

                      (0) 30AD Just looking around. Giving orders to the workers and the spearman near New Lurkburg. Contacted Elizabeth. Wanted to get some contacts or technology from her, but she does not want any reasonable deals.
                      (1) 50AD Excelsior memorials finishes a worker. Lurkburg finishes a galley. Improving land, exploring the world.
                      (2) 70AD Continuing to explore the lands. Found a new good city site. Barbarians attack the city of New Lurkburg, but are not successful, for there is a spearman defending it.
                      (3) 90AD Met an Egyptian warrior.

Got their World map in exchange for our world map and some gold.

                      (4) 110AD Rome has completed the Great Library. The Egyptians are building the Great Wall. Changed production in Beta to the Great Lighthouse. The Seljuk tribe near New Lurkburg has taught us the secrets of Polytheism. Dispersed a Burgundian encampment to the north of St. Lurking.
                      (5) 130AD London has finished the Great Wall! Settlers are built in Epsilon and Lurkburg.
                      (6) 150AD Holy... 21 horsemen approaching New Excelsior! And it has not yet built a spearman! And it only has the population of one! Also met the Germans. They are annoyed with us (?) Well, we trade our world map for their world map, contact with Greeks and Romans, and some gold. The Greeks have nothing whatsoever to give us. We get Currency from the Romans, however. We also enter the new age, and discover Monotheism. Cool.
                      (7) 170AD Excelior is finished building a Coliseum (from what is left from our Great Wall project). It starts building settlers. Vovanville finishes a temple and starts building a library. A spearman and a settler are moved to the English island to found a new settlement.
                      (8) 190AD More settlers are being sent to the new lands. Homeland is being improved.
                      (9) 210AD Gamma, Mosfrog, and Lurkburg all finish their spearmen. They all start building cultural buildings. The city of St.Petersburg is founded. A lot of gold there + horses.
                      (10) 230AD A temple is built in Delta. Starting work on a new spearman.
                      (12) 250AD Barbarians approach New Lurkburg. Excelsior builds a settler.
                      (13) 260AD Seven Hun Horsemen attack New Lurkburg. Our defender becomes a veteran.
                      (14) 270AD Some more barbarian activity. All the known world leaders are contacted. None of them has a technology to offer to us! What a pity.
                      (15) 280AD Unheard of number of barbarians attacks New Lurkburg. The defender is promoted to Elite.
                      (16) 290AD Gamma builds a galley to transport our settlers.
                      (17) 300AD Settlers are brought to the island of New Lurkburg.
                      (18) 310AD Moscow is founded. A source of incense will soon be ours.
                      (19) 320AD The English have established an embassy in our capital.
                      (20) 330AD Excelsior has finished the library and now is working on a new settler. The settlers to the north-east of New Lurkburg are moving to the site of a new settlement.

Are you playing? If not, perhaps you should be skipped. Your 72 hours are about up. Excelsior, if fsck doesn't reply in 3 hours, why don't you go ahead and play. fsck should feel better by the time his next turn comes around. I hope fsck won't be upset. Thanks and good game everyone. This game is a challenge.
