I could do one or two little side pieces if the DAR has something unusual or funny in it. ((Hate to sound like an Uber N00b here, but what's a DAR?))
First Master, Banan-Abbot of the Nana-stary, and Arch-Nan of the Order of the Sacred Banana.
Marathon, the reason my friends and I have been playing the same hotseat game since 2006...

Mid August at the earliest Im afraid, that is to be able to devote any real time to this.

I start a new Job next week and have some training to get through, then family holidays. After that I should be more available
A proud member of the "Apolyton Story Writers Guild".There are many great stories at the Civ 3 stories forum, do yourself a favour and visit the forum. Lose yourself in one of many epic tales and be inspired to write yourself, as I was.

Please, do tell..I am interested in writing actually.LOVE WRITING!!
Ok..in this AU..and I believe its called DAR???

I am thinking you would want someone to write a story based on turns?

I am currently writing a story..not specifically on "turns" but on the game as it unfolds..a "behind-the-scenes"

In this DAR..how would it differ from what style or mode I am currently writing?

          Thanks
          ..and puleease..bear with me!!

          Peace

I'm sure we could fit something funny in it, to make it more enjoyable, whether or not it actually has something funny or unusual in it. A During Action Report is something you write up, every number of turns. If you go the AU Forum, you will see many there.

This is longer than I hoped, but I doubt it would be finished by then, maybe not even close to being done, so you will still be able to contribute.

I want a group of writers and editors that will write about the game as a whole. Since I am not a writer, I need suggestions with this. Would it be possible to try to make it a huge story, talking about every aspect of the game?

Of course, it'd be possible, just that we need to be careful coordinating the writing I think. Otherwise, it may and up so everyone writes about a single aspect of a single turn. While it would certainly be most interesting to compare the results of such exercise, we definitely wouldn't get far then.

Would it be easier for me to translate the DAR to include only large events? And how much time does it take to write a normal story? And how many words?

Nah. I'd say give us the DAR, and we'll sort it out.

Wellllll.... It depends on the author, the DAR, the day of the week we start writing, the weather outside at the time of the writing, and the author's relationship with his girlfriend at the moment. Seriously, there are so many factors governing this that I wouldn't dare estimate. Sometimes it takes me an hour to whip a short story like Reload in my sig up. At other times, it'd take me a few days. It all depends. More epic stories, obviously, take more time. I believe Mike's Story by Chrisius was over a year in writing, for instance.

It depends on the topic, and the level of development you want to achieve. Some things I can write thousands and thousands of words on. Others... Well, for some things I can barely squeeze 200 words out of myself.

Well, most professional authors only average 1000-3000 words a day (RA salvatore does 1000, James Michner or Tom Wolfe does about 3000 [I think])

It depends on the quality you want and so many other factors as vovan has thankfully explained, how long these things might take. Honestly, they'll take as long as they take and the more people collaborating on a project- the longer it'll take if they ahve to wait for person a to pass the work to person b and people are limited in the amount of material they have to work with and have to read other people's works.

talking about every aspect of the game?
The game itself, or Civ III?

I was thinking more thousands and thousands Is at least 10,000 a pretty good goal to aim for?

Well, I looked up some of Chris's stories, and found that Mike's Story was not that long in the writing, it was "The Fight For Freedom" I was thinking of, which is an even more civ-like story, that took so long. (Of course, it's immaterial which story it was, since this is just an example.) You can check out "The Fight For Freedom" here:

The first post was made 22-12-2002, and the epilogue was posted 05-01-2004 - a little over a year, as you can see. And you can judge how long it is yourself.

Well, thing is, I, personally, never liked to measure stories/essays in the number of words. IMO, whatever gets it done is good.

So I think the good way to go about this is for someone like you to supervise the process of writing and give directions. Like you want a certain area to be covered in more depth. Or maybe you want a certain character developed more thoroughly. Or maybe, on the contrary, you would like some rosyness to be cut in places. Then, however many words we come out with, that's how many we'll have.

I wouldn't set a number in advance and try to reach it, but instead just let it flow naturally and go with however many we get.
