I wish to thank all who encouraged me with this story.

It has been a long road for me since I started this yarn, of a mythical people in some faraway valley.

Yet each day these people wander closer and closer to my heart.

I often read through this story, and thus read through the many comments. Please know that they fill me with inspiration and happiness every time that I read your comments.

/me is found sitting at a bar discussing the joys of Civ III and the Poly community... of course with a whiskey in hand and a schooner of ice cold beer nearby

... I really do pay homage to the many writers that have contributed to this site. As a long time player of Civ, it did me good to one day find a site where people shared their Civ experiences in the form of stories, whether long epics, or short essay's.

There was a time when I was not able to play much Civ, working full time and doing Uni 4 nights a week... ahhh it was good to be able to come online, and print off a good old yarn, then have some great reading on the bus and train between home - work - uni - home... the strange looks I would sometime get when I would mumble such things as charge them down; that is a great idea for workers and irrigating that land; build more galley's; if only you had the pyramids... Actually I still read the stories on the train each day, and still get the same sorts of looks...

Eventually my days of lurking around the story forums came to an end… then I started getting involved within the community here at poly. That was a bit of fun. This led to my writing my first story – The People of the Valley. This story was inspired by a game that I played and had a lot of fun with. It received some good feedback, and encouraged me to get into another.

This encouragement also taught me the value of feedback… the very feedback that I had never given as a lurker. Also from this feedback came some good relationships with some of the other writers. Ahh the mysteries and many personalities that are to be found in a pack of writers…

It is with some sadness that not all of the writers of yesturyear are still in and around the forum writing and encouraging. So many great authors, so many great stories. Yet I am ever greatful for the storage capacity and the archives that Poly has.

From the writing forum my tastes moved into the PBEM forum and into some of the Democracy forums. The PBEM Forum is a great place… a wonderland full of Civ Players from all over the planet, with a multitude of games on at any hour. Just watching the posts in the forum allows me to imagine the many email trails scuttling right across the globe… like a vaste network that only we are privy too I have a lot of fun playing these games and highly recommend people to come and get involved.

And then came the Third Civ III Democracy Game. Wow this was a time killer… My life almost went on hold as this game got its hooks into me We be the Vikings in a Deity Level Game, and we be in lots and lots of trouble. Ahh the hours we would discuss the smallest detail. Although very frustrating, this was a great experience.

Other forums have provided me with some great laughs, awesome information on playing the game, and some fantastic help in keeping my system running and the game moving along.

My wanderings through this land has been a long and envolved process. My initial perception was that this be a good sized town with a bustling marketplace and games arena... then the more I moved about the more roads and paths I came across, leading off to humble villages, strong fortresses, mills and various independent missions...

Yes a great and amazing community this Apolyton...

And here I sit on the wild Mount Stirling over looking the vaste and incredible Valley of Apolyton, a place that be known throughout the many realms of this world.

The sight I see is one that brings excitment and happiness to my eyes. Whether I gaze across my ever favourite Civ III Stories forum, or way off into the distance where the great Civ IV works are under way, I see a great deal of good and magnificent works that have been brought together through mutual respect and cooperatioon, with a twist of conflict and arrogance thrown in for good measure... yes a truely great place for my wandering spirit to call home.

/me reaches into his pack and takes out an older journal, reads through various well worn sections, then returns to his writing

Regardless that not all has been recorded in here, these pages certainly do hold many a good yarn, some great chats, an amazing number of codes, twists, ideas and worthy suggestions for better living and good fellowship. To the many people of Apolyton who are in here, I bid you my humble thanks. Your ways have inspired me in many directions that I had not even heard of prior to my arrival.

To my gracious and loving Lady I say again, Thank You.

/me lifts his flask in salute to the the Lady Remick, takes a swig, then turning, looks out over the vaste Valley of Apolyton, quietly says a few words to the distant horizon, lifts the flask again, and then takes another swig

I could sit here for many an hour, this be a fine place of peace and happiness, alas there be a war to be seen to in the great pbem arenas, and I am sure that there is further growth over in the Clan Miyoshi and I know that the lads will be gathering for another fine evening of Horde business over at the Wild Boar, so I be off for now

A new time.

The night was long, so long that when I came from the village pub the sun was high in the sky. For a mid winters day it certainly is a sharp clear day.

Throiughout the night I have partied and played some great games with a core of loyal friends. Many different and good drinks have beenconsummed, along with a few very nice meals.

Yet the games keep the attention of my thoughts, bringing a smile to my eyes. Ahh the wonders of Civilization, and the ever amazing possiblilties that can be taken on while embracing many different scenerios. Then add in the twists and turns of great players. Always working to keep me on my toes, never playing predictable moves, and thus keeping the games alive.

I be blessed to have the pleasure of such fine company. To you my friends, I say "thank you."

As I stand here looking out across the broad horizon I remember that many things have been discussed in the past weeks of a new time that is dawning upon this world of Apolyton. That there is a great groundswell forming around the Civ IV forums. New members are arriving and getting involved and being welcomed. Along with these new people, we are also seeing a resurgence of older players, coming back out of their villages, their guilds, their businesses, and again giving of themselves to our ever great world - Apolyton.
