hosh, I remember when I thought that was the epitome in game design and graphics...
What do you mean WAS ???
I still get goosebumps when I think about CIV 1 and seeing those images again...aaaaaaa
....I remember that I used to have to watch the whole of the start-up sequence (..up to the modern world) until I upgraded my old IBM PS2 model 30 to a 486sx25.Then it would just get to the dinosaur era and the game would start.
..listening to the music with the PC speaker, before I got a soundbaster... good memories

... I can't remember exactly what was the purpose of that box below the "Status" title bar...
That is how your Palace looks as an "overview." As you add to your Palace, the image will change/grow.
I do miss this feature in the later civ games...

Ah the palace. It used to bug the hell out of me because it took so long to load up with floppies (I had Civ1 on the Amiga). I always used to disable it, it never did anything anyway.... as far as I could tell anyway
The best thing I remember was the music. It might not have been on the PC version, but on the Amiga, when you discovered an advance or built a wonder, it played a bit of music for the civ you represented. I always played as Germany simply because of their kick ass music! Again, as far as I could tell, there wasn't any differences between civs on that version.
