How did they tweak it? I see comments about "new" things in ptw here and there, but many of them were done in 1.00 --- 1.29 in original civ 3. Just wondering.Originally posted by notyoueither
Not to mention the tweaked AI...
Imho, ptw is rather weak expansion, and I have seen many expansion for many games... they usually add more than ptw did to civ 3. Of course the product will cost 30$ atleast, would be nice if it had more content too. Ptw just doesn't feel different compared to civ 3

Just curious what you expected. I bought Broodwar and I was disappointed that it only added 3 units and some scenarios.Originally posted by tinyp3nis

PTW adds an extra 50% more civs, a slightly better editor, streamlined UI, MP (which has worked for me since the beginning), new units, buildings, Wonders, actions, gameplay modes, better support for mods, and some scenarios.
FWIW, I'm glad it still feels like Civ3. I'd havee been disappointed if it didn'tSeemingly Benign

Funny that you mention Broodwar, I have it too. They actually added 7 units (medic, dt, da, lurker, corsair, valkyrie and devourer), but your right thats not very many. The MP in SC was/is so huge that any unit they would add could not offset the balance of the game, the multiplayer is SC's heart and soul. It was nice to see them be able to add even 7, and the game was still balanced (actually a bit more balanced even). I assure you, the MP experience is very different in SC and BW, different tactics and so on. If you only played single I can imagine it didn't feel like very much tought. Come to think of it, I'm not sure how I would think of broodwar if I wasn't a hardcore sc/bw player. Then I wouldn't see much sense why there were only so many new units and no new buildings and so on. Well they did add all new 20+ or so missions to the single player and continued the story with them tooOriginally posted by WarpStorm

The new civ's doesn't really seem different from the earlier civ's. I don't use the editor, so I can't comment on how good it's now and then. Streamlined UI, uh what's that?? MP... how can tbs possibly lag anyway? And none of the many things added doesn't really change the way the game will be played. Perhaps the medieval infranty is exception?
I agree, it should feel like civ3, but not too much.FWIW, I'm glad it still feels like Civ3. I'd havee been disappointed if it didn't
Almost forgot to answer thisJust curious what you expected.
I didn't expect anything... Just some things I knew about it beforehand, like how many new civ's there will be and so on. It just didn't feel different enough to feel like expansion. I haven't tried the MP with the new patch, maybe I should. Last time I did I had 1.04. Oh wait, I had one thing in mind. I figured they would have fixed the annoying timeline in SP, the fact you allways get to the modern ages before 1900 is annoying, I don't even get close.

This is easily tweaked in the editor. There are a bunch of different ways to do this, globally raising the tech cost, changing the cost of certain techs, lowering the AI-AI trade rate, deferring map trading (the AI treats this as a trade item for most of the game), removing or deferring contact trading, raising the min and max research times, increasing corruption, etc.Originally posted by tinyp3nis

Oh yeah, you were right there were roughly 2 new units for each of the 3 sides in BW.Seemingly Benign

PTW increased the CIVs from 16 to 24. That is a 33.4% increase, not 50%Originally posted by WarpStorm
PTW adds an extra 50% more civs
Emphasis on slightly But it is still not as robust as the editor from CIV 2, Gold edition.a slightly better editor
can't argue this point. The AI is more challanging in PTW.streamlined UI
either you are lucky or you do not use a Firewall, hope its not the latter.MP (which has worked for me since the beginning)
2 new units (other than the king and special scenario units, which I don't use) 2 new buildings ( & civil defense is worthless, a metro does not need more defensive bonuses, also where did the AAA improvement go???) 1 New Wonder (Internet---Wow I guess I am blessednew units, buildings, Wonders, actions, gameplay modes, better support for mods, and some scenarios.
) Better support for mods, yes but still frustrating to most people who are not programers. Some scenerios are quite good, as are the included graphics, but these could have been installed FOC from fansites such as Apolyton, and CFC.
Im not bashing PTW, It is a good expansion, just a little overpriced IMNSHO.FWIW, I'm glad it still feels like Civ3. I'd havee been disappointed if it didn't* A true libertarian is an anarchist in denial.

yes airbases are nice, so are longer ranges, but these were included in CIV2, but I do appreciate Firaxis inventing the wheel...again.Originally posted by panag

credit where it is due, an improvement, no doubt.not to mention about those radartowers
yes, along with warpstorms graphics, these are undoubtably the winners of PTWand european terrain
:
Agree with exception to 2 UU's as many Cvs would be hardpressed to have a true second UU.well all we need now is a bigger map and more civ's , more wonders and a second UU for each civ , and its done
et tu Panag.have a nice day

How did you calculate this, Mr. Mathematician?Originally posted by Mad Bomber

16+16*0.5=16+8=24
16+16*0.33=16+5.28=21.28
