The people who like Civ3 and PTW: a small, shrinking self-congratulatory group of True Believers.

Sort of like going into a Catholic Church and asking "who believes in the Pope?".

The larger group of Civ 1 and 2 addicts, who found Civ 3 a flawed product, and PTW worse, are mostly long gone from here.

        Isn't same with Civ2 forums.

          Solver:

I am forced to agree with you and Coracle here.

I like PTW and enjoy playing it. However, the $30 price tag is too high, esp when the Multiplayer still does not work as advertised.

Still, the price you pay is used in financing the patch project.

So if price was to low, then there would be no money left to fix the bugs.

            P.S.
Of course, really bad thing would be, that at the end of patch support, MP doesn't play well.
            I hope that won't happen.

But you bravely remain here, battling the forces of darkness and trying to show us the light of truth, right?
I watched you fall. I think I pushed.

As Coracle cant resist to give in in his old, bad habits, he is given a all-expenses paid weekly vacation so that he has more time to do more enjoyable stuff(for him) like playing civ2.....

Back on topic now - Things I like about PtW:

                                1. New Civs! Yay! I'm a dunce at programming, I lack any software for making good mods, and I'm a bit lazy, so I could never take time to create new civs myself. Only gripe is that some of the unique units can use some tweaking.

                                2. Better editor! Although I'm not much of a modder, the editor, and the stuff that was added to it in PtW, allowed me to tweak the things I didn't like and add some of my own stuff to make the game more enjoyable.

                                3. No more Swordsmen in the Modern Age! Having Swordsmen as a dead-end unit was utterly ridiculous. But thanks to PtW, now there's Medieval Infantry and Guerrilas, making Swordsmen worthwhile units if you play up to the Modern Age.

                                4. New improvements! The inclusion of the new improvements was great. Commercial Docks now made costal cities even more valuable. It sure didn't make sense in Civ3 when all the harbor did was provide extra food for coastal cities.

I never play MP, but the single play was GREATLY improved in PtW. Although the expansion was really pricey, it was still well worth it.

but when there has been naming
we should also know when to stop.
Only by knowing when to stop can we avoid danger." - Lao-zi, the "Dao-de-jing"
