  • Collected Mods:

Here is a nice little collection of some of the higher-commented on mods that
I've been using. Note that I was too damn lazy to credit any of the
inventors (many came from several people).

    Legionaries:
    -add fortress build
    -add road build

    Guerillas:
-amd of 6.6.2, 6.6.3, or leave at 6.6.1
    and/or add
    -all terrain as roads
    -hidden nationality
    -stealth
    -detect invisible

    Marines:
    -adm of 8.6.2
    -upgrade to paratrooper

    Paratrooper:
    -amd of 6.8.2
    -amphibious

    Artillery (regular):
    -deadly bombard
    -movement of 2

    Artillery (radar):
    -deadly bombard
    -movement of 2
    -range = 3

    Aircraft Carriers:
    -add one movement
    -transport 6 or 8 units

    Helicopters:
    -load flag checked
    -rebase flag checked (?)

    Railroad:
-movement decreased to 1/10 or other value, depending on map

    What have I forgotten?

So you can change rail movement now? And not just having it at infinite, have longed for that a very long time.

I thought you could... anyways, the different ideas are just listed. I only give legionaries the build fortress, but I take add to the regular unit stats to balance.

I know what you mean about the Legionaries: Roman legions always built fortifications when they set up camp. They kept adding to it, so the longer they stayed the more dug-in they became. Each legionary carried a shovel and pick for this purpose. However, I always thought it was more appropriate that Ancient age units shouldn't be allowed to fortify, bar the Legionary who should. A Legionary spending 24 turns building a fortress on a mountain tile is a Roman UU wasted, and the defense bonus is then too high.

You can't change rail movement, no. It is still always infinite.

I thought so, the Civ team will never change the infinity, *sigh*.

Also giving Legions road building abilities don't work for the AI, you have to set it to build all for the AI to recognice them, *again sigh*. It's a good idea and many have already tried to use it but it dosnet work too good.

At first I defended the infinite rail movement as part of the Civ legacy, but I changed my mind. It should be something that is editable. It's ruining the game for enough folks that it could be a huge plus to have the option, at least. And it's not like there aren't other Civ legacies that have been dropped and changed. It should be about making the game good, not senselessly clinging to old ideas for tradition's sake.

And I can't think it should be hard to implement, either. Just have a variable in the editor, and if 0 then it is infinite.

I think it should also be editable to what benefits it gives to the terrain when used. I would like it so that they didn't improve terrain value, and were only used to connect two cities together for the faster movement. That way you don't end up with the ugly RR sprawl everywhere.

You can change the terrain effect... I just forget if it's under terrain or improovements. (or at least you could in vanilla)
