Here is the scenario.
When I first started playing, I could host 4 player games no problem.
then I updated Gamespy.
Then I could only play 2 player games, and it crashed constantly..... (see my thread titled I cant play anymore)
Believe me, I tried and tried and tried, no matter what, I could only get a 2 player game going, as was reported by many others
in the lobby, a guy said he had no problems, and he never installed gamespy.
In a couple of days I could hardly do anything without getting major crashes.
So I unistalled gamespy.... and guess what.
PTW worked without a hitch. Hosted a 3 player game titled people w/o gamespy first time, WITH OTHER PEOPLE I WAS SURE had NOT INSTALLED GAMESPY!!!
thankyou Rjack and Toasty for testing this with me.... sorry I bolted to report the finings of my experiment.
EDIT: you may not need to uninstall gamespy, you may just nedd to make sure it isn't running, and that no-one else is using gamespy also.
Also, I am aware that the civ III lobby says powered by gamespy.... even if you un-install gamespy. It will still work with gamespy un-installed. Also, this issue may be fixed in the next patch.... but until then.....
