As pure speculation, I would doubt that it would replace swordsmen, as it would probably (at least in my games) be a while until you could get galleys to use the marine ability.Comment

on the other hand, the fact that the russians still have spearmen, could indicate that it replaces the swordsman
. or maybe just the russkies are underdeveloped as usual...

It's also possible that the Russians either dont have Iron or simply have not yet upgraded that spearman. On the other hand, it's likely that the Viking Civ is in the middle ages as well and has access to Feudalism or Chivalry, or whatever tech is required for Medieval Infantry. Unfortunatly, it's all speculation until Firaxis tells us more. But my guess is that it replaces the Med. Infantry.Making the Civ-world a better place (and working up to King) one post at a time....Comment

Maybe the only reason for including medieval infantry is that Firaxis now has a new unit that can be replaced by a UU. Two UUs replacing swordsmen (roman, persian) should be enough.Originally posted by N. Machiavelli

Dudes, this is awesome. The Vikings may now become the most powerful/valueable civ. The ability to launch amphibious assaults that early in the game ...with fewer defenders in cities, with no railroads ...that's huge.Comment

What I don't like so much is that the Vikings will be Militaristic and Expansionistic.Comment
