    The Flag and publications
The present flag of the society wsa designed by Ole Bjerring in the early 1980's following protests from the Flag Institute that it too closely resembled their flag. The flag was designed after the old Nordic Union flag, which was yellow with a red Scandinavian cross. Th Nordic Union flag wsa born in the funeral procession for Queen Phillippa in 1430. The current cross carries flag lines with the vexillological knot in the center of the flag.

The first flag was designed by the late Dr. Jur Alte Grahl-Madsen of Bergen, Norway.

The society first started publishing Nordisk Flaggskrift in 1978 and would be quite rare today. The periodical stopped with issue 14 in 1991. Nordisk Flaggkontakt was started in 1984 and is issued twice annually.

hmm so it is the flag of an organization founded in 1973... A little late for the Vikings, but it doesn't matter.

Using a Danish flag for the Vikings would be a grave insult (Norway used to be occupied by Danish oppressors).
Viking land was more than Denmark, as reflected in the cities chosen.

Yep. They ****ed up our language, stole our colonies and made us lutheran. We should use the Norwegian flag for the Vikings, as a compensation

Unique units maybe the answer to this. I can't do it and it would take an awful lot of time but it is possible with the tools we have.

                1. Make 16 sets of every combat unit. One set for each civ.
                2. Each unit, when fortified, carries the flag of it's owner, similar to the shield in Civ2.
                3. Voila, Towns show the flag of whatever unit is fortified and your flag is everywhere.

                Just a suggestion.

Of course it would be better if they were part of the game and if you could select a flag from a substantial collection at the beginning of the game and then given the option of changing it at new eras, change of govt or when developing Nationalism and so on.

You should use the Danish flag for the Vikings. It was the very first of all national flags.
                  or Minnesota's flag...
