    So many questions, signa..
We will see. I dont think FIRAXIS would do us the favour, to make a patch. We need some proffesionals, and there are a lot of them to find here! I will try to find some of them, for this project.
I think, it will be OUR great CIV3 project.

A simple way to do it would be to have the flag from the same era as the leader head

An imposed flag, like in Signa's list, would be a bad idea in my opinion :

I don't want to have the modern French Republican flag when my government is monarchy, but I wouldn't have a Royalist flag when my government is Republic...

So there should be a flag for each government ?
Impossible, as many nations never had Communism, Republic, etc...

So I think that you should be able to choose your flag when you start the game and not to change it later.

Not a bad idea. But I think we still should have the option to make our own, and maybe also alter the rules to have several flags in a way or another.

              preparation for the "project"

Yesterday i took a look into the Civilization-graphicsfolder. Even with my minimal knowlege you can add flags... but so far, only for the specific culturel cities (ya know what i mean: American culture, European culture and so on..) and not for each Civ.
This is the main problem here: add flags, where no basis is. I need someonewho have experience in changing rules, the txt.files and someone to alter the graphics.
I think, it just need a flageditor. This is complex work.
              Cheers!

I think that we should still appeal to Firaxis for this. Like OS84 said this is all very complex work. While it wouldn't be hard to find someone who could handle the graphics it would be extremely difficult to find someone who understands programming and all the technical stuff needed to do this ourselves (esp. without personnaly knoweldge of how the game was made in the first place). I still like haveing different flags for different govs for different civs idea. I also am all for the custom falg desighning thing.

Browse through the Civilizations pages of my ExtraPack project (see below in my signature) and you'll find some good flags for the various civilizations.
"The world is too small in Vorarlberg". Austrian ex-vice-chancellor Hubert Gorbach in a letter to Alistar [sic] Darling, looking for a job...
"Let me break this down for you, fresh from algebra II. A 95% chance to win 5 times means a (95*5) chance to win = 475% chance to win." Wiglaf, Court jester or hayseed, you judge.

Yes they were. Not in the beginning of the Viking age but in the middle of it ca. 1000 the Danish king Harald made inscriptions, runes, in the Jelling stone (in southern Denmark) which says something like:
"Harald king, made this memory of his father Gorm and his mother Thyra. Harald who won (conquered) all Denmark and Norway and Christed the Danes."

In reality another century pasted before the majority of the Danes were christian.

Sorry for my bad English translation.

                      Splendid idea!

I would really like to see the flag carried by the armies changed to the proposed national flag.

                      As for the Greeks:
                      i)Macedonian flag for Ancient times.
                      ii)Imperial(Byzantine) flag for Medieval times.
iii)Greek Royal flag(with the monarchy's emblem in the middle) for the industrial times.
iv)Republican Greek flag for Modern times.

Imagine the invisible Greek Armies charging forward, Imperial banners flying.

                      Simply put, splendid idea.
"Military training has three purposes: 1)To save ourselves from becoming subjects to others, 2)to win for our own city a possition of leadership, exercised for the benefit of others and 3)to exercise the rule of a master over those who deserve to be treated as slaves."-Aristotle, The Politics, Book VII

I suggest that each civ use its earliest flag, and that the flags don't change due to era or government. just to make things simple

Wohoo looks like we have another graphically gifted person among us. Would it be possible to get you to work a nice little flag-patch for the community ?

I always was a fan of the nationalflags in Civ II and would be more than glad to see them in III again.
