2 UU per civ?

How about some new units that are shared by several civs? Much like the Eagle Warriors in AoE that could be used by Aztecs and Incas.
There would be three or four civs capable of a certain unit, another group of civs would get something else. Maybe they could be divided by region (Europe, America, Middle East, Asia, Greco-Roman).

indeed intresting , .....

they should trow at least 5-6 extra units in , then at least a second UU for each civ , and some UU for the groups , that means , .......

36 extra new units

can we expect that , .....

Problem is, the stuff I invision would mess up the current unit selection.
For example, only Europeans would have knights, Asians would have early gunpowder, Greco-Roman could have Hoplite like spearmen, Europeans could have different infantry than everyone else, Russia and America could have different sets of late game units. Special Middle Eastern Cavalry etc. etc. etc.

36 new units? I'm pretty sure that would exhaust almost every rational A/D/M combination

, not all the way , it can be done
right now you can take a unit , a UU for example and give it to a couple civ's , it works

however what would come closer to what you have in mind , would be to create maybe several tech treas , one for each culture group or so , ....

or to create more techs that can only be there for a group of civ's , ....

maybe even go with different era for certain culture groups , ....

36 , well , there is going to be 8 new UU , and some they trow in extra , that is all ready 12-15 new units , ....

imagine a total of 31 civ's , then 36 is a small number
