I think every civ should have 2 UUs. And instead of letting every UU be upscale version of some standard unit, why not make some UUs out of the blue, w/o any closely related standard unit. That will make the game more interesting.

I like the idea, try to come up with some "out-of-the-blue" ideas for the different Civs...
Btw, when you say "out-of-the-blue", could that mean something like a unit that works both as a settlers (build cities) and workers (build roads)? Or what do you have in mind? This space is empty... or is it?

A unit out-of-the-blue that isn't a modification of an existing one. That's more difficult than it sounds...
A thief that steals gold from other civs, available upon the discovery of currency

/me wonders if it would be politically correct to give any civ that as a UU

The problem is, what do you do for the Civs that don't have any historical unit that could be used for a second UU, like Babylon, Persia, Aztecs, & Zulus?Know your enemies!

That'd be cool, you could give Babylon "The Tower of Babel" which would add to happeness, but would also give the small possibility that all the people in the city will become different nationalities.Originally posted by monkspider
Good point Darkworld, I think adding unique improvements for each civ would be very interesting though.Know your enemies!

I many months ago added another UU for certain civs, especially those with nearly useless UU's such as the Americans and English.
English now have Longbowmen; everyone else gets crossbowmen. They also have MOW.
Americans have a fast musketman called Minuteman (starts GA); also we have F-15's.
Babylonians also now have a horse archer UU.
Unique Wonders are a fine idea. It also makes it less likely to lose a ton of production on a GW someone else just finished.
Mod it in yourself as Firaxis will never bother.

You could just make a number of UUs, that has no specific role for a specific Civ. Those UUs will then at the start of a new game, be randomly specified to random CivsOriginally posted by Darkworld Ark

But I really like the thing about Civ specific buildings...
