Tsk, tsk. Get your facts straight. Like Voltaire said, the Holy Roman Empire was "neither holy, nor Roman, nor an Empire." It was comprised mostly of present day Germany, as can be seen here: http://www.mcm.edu/academic/depts/hi...ROMEMPIRE.html

Oh, and I like having the dog there. Can't wait to see the death animation.

Stuie. Get a sense of humour. We could argue the HRE for days. We'd both have points. Don't read too much into a throw away line. Like Voltaire's or mine.

civman. Is that one of the lies his teacher told him?

          German barbarians, thank you.

          Holy ROMAN empire. Thank you.
          Stuie said it quite well.

Ummm. 1871, the British Empire? 1914 and 1939, The USofA? Most powerful? pfff. Biggest pain in the *ss? Yes.
Germany defeated two the strongest powers in the world consecutively, France and Austria. Germany had nearly as large of a navy as Britain once World War I came around. The industrial capabilities of the rest of Europe significantly caught up with Britain during the late 19th century, and Germany surpassed Britain in many areas of manufacturing. Germany could easily have beaten any country in the world one on one in either 1914 or during World War II.

You are correct. I did not say the Germans do not belong. I pointed out that the Spanish were slighted by being passed over. If you think that Spain had little impact on the history of the entire planet, not just Europe, I would prescribe a few books. Start on google. Type 'Columbus', go from there.
I never said Spain didn't matter. I agree with you that Spain belongs. I was only talking about Germany, if you'll notice.

I'm a true French, born in Paris where I lived until I was 19. And still, I didn't know anything about the Tercios, while I'm more than correct in history (granted, 1880+ history). I think the French should know of them because of the XVII-XVIII centuries wars, but these weren't covered in details by our history books.
