They have a lot to suck up to the Spanish for? Not being in the original 16 was a bit of a slap. England, OK. France, maybe. Germany? How many German speaking countries are there?

          And the dog is cute.

Maybe they were just looking for another reason for everyone to fork over their hard-earnt cash on the XP. They probably knew all along that the Spanish were considered one of the most important, and so waited until the XP before letting us use them without having to mod the game. Not that I'd whine about it anyway.

England and France did indeed have great colonial power. As for the Germans, they were the biggest threat to the Romans in ancient times, had a few high points in the form of the Holy Roman Empire during the middle ages, and during the Industrial age became the most powerful European nation that took the Allies everything they had to beat them.

            And the dog is cute.
But cute with military units doesn't work that well. Cute military units remind me too much of Pokemon. But then again, Infogrames' marketing behaviour recently reminds me of Pokemon too.

Anyway, I'm not going to sit and whine when I install the game, and the conquistador looks ridiculous. I'll just use the AOE2 conquistador graphics to mod it to perfection.

Three and a half countries speak German (Germany, Austria, Leichtenstein, Switzerland as well as many people in the Balkans. More than the number of Iriqois speaking countries, Aztec speaking countries, Japanese, Chinese etc etc. Whats your point?

Germans have a huge place in European history, thats why they are there. I agree Spain should have been included, as should the Vikings, but Germany has as much right as anyone else.

AFAIK, it's a unit mixing pikemen and musketmen which was nearly invicible until the coming of more modern cavalry. It was the backbone of Spanish wars in Europe. (well, I might be wrong, but it's the way I understood)

Spiffor, you really French or just living in France? If the former I find it shocking that you haven't heard of the Tercios before coming to this forum.

Many people might not know that German is actually the third official language in Belgium.
And yes, I think the Germans are mainly in due to their influence on European history (not only in WW2, as LordAzreal already mentioned).

I hope the dog actually does something when the conquistador animates Though I hope he just runs away when the unit gets defeated.

Redstar1, you kind of kill your whole point, sure only China speaks Chinese, but ever consider how many people are there? . . . Then again Germany is Europe's most populous country, besides Russia I suspose.

Also, thanks a lot for the help about the 'tercio' though I was a little dissapointed after seeing all those pictures of bullfighters and Don Quixote . . . of course I couldn't read a word of what the pages were saying since they were in Spanish.

Hey, if tercios are so great, why weren't they included in the Spanish nation for Cossacks? I played the demo and that was the country you played in the first one, I was pretty sure you got to use everyhting.

Germany destroyed 3 Roman legions in near the turn of the first millenium. The Holy Roman Empire was once as powerful as the Catholic church. Between 1871 and 1914, Germany was the strongest country on Earth. That was again the case in 1939. Germany has always been important. Just because few countries speak German (few being around a dozen in actuality) doesn't mean they didn't have an impact on history or weren't a true civilization.

Don't you think this unit is bit crowded with a man, a horse, and a dog? I'm surprised he didn't also have a parrot on his shoulder, too.

No. Some barbarians did. That's why they have barbarians. To occasionaly upset the apple cart.

Ummm. 1871, the British Empire? 1914 and 1939, The USofA? Most powerful? pfff. Biggest pain in the *ss? Yes.

You are correct. I did not say the Germans do not belong. I pointed out that the Spanish were slighted by being passed over. If you think that Spain had little impact on the history of the entire planet, not just Europe, I would prescribe a few books. Start on google. Type 'Columbus', go from there.
