This game is like watching paint dry. Perhaps it is the fustration of everything being so slow, tech progression, building units, city growth. Maybe if the accelerated production option had be used, the game would be more enjoyable. But as it now this is more like a chore I have to do than a game.

    • I think the game is fine as long as it keeps moving. I know I'd personally RATHER find someone else has played my turn than have the thing continue to go dead in the water. I don't think its any one person's fault, but something needs to be done.

The slow progression in the beginning is the killer I do admit. Once we get a few cities and tech trading it should become more enjoyable. That is why the option to play MP and then go PBEM would be perfect. We could meet for an hour one night and burn through the turns in the first 2000 years.

Right now it is like... Hmm.. my worker still hasn't finished the road, time to pass the turn. That is pretty typical for civ. Except when you are playing by yourself you can quickly get through the ancient age.

Enduring the slowness in the beginning will pay off when we get farther along. At least that is what I keep telling myself.

        • My last post got me thinking. If we could arrange a time to meet we could burn through some turns. I realize this might be a logistical nightmare but might be worth considering. If we could set up an hour one night we could pass a few turns and have a chat as well.

I am thinking it could be done pretty easily in IRC with DCC sends for the turns. Let me know what you think.

          • We have a 10 hour time zone differential from our Finnish player to our west coast North American player. That means evening for the majority of the players is early morning for our UK and Finnish player. Their evenings are our late mornings to mid-afternoon. What SirOsis suggests would be fine for a game limited to North American players, probably get a turn every 5 minutes easy.

The problem comes from the combination of map size and the inability to attain one turn per day (remember SirOsis was thinking getting in 2 turns a day would make up for the map size). Also, I find tech trading to be non-exisitent. I have met two civs who have tech I could use, but I have none for them and they don't seem interested in gold. At least in a SP game I could buy tech from the AI.

SirOsis warned this would take some time. But with the tech research rates and turn speed as it is; I will not have completed my first tech research by the time this game hits the 6 month mark (April 12th, that is just 6 weeks away and I still have 14 turns until my first tech completes). I fully expected to be finished with the first teir of tech and working on a second tier one like writing. As it is now I may complete the first tier by this time NEXT YEAR.

I have (usually) no problems with the time difference, just let me know when. Middle of the night here is no problem if arranged before.

If you offer enough gold, i'll give you techs, whats the point of donating techs to others. As i am expansionistic, i popped your starting techs from huts before meeting you.

True, the mapsize is too big, researching is a nightmare. But it will go faster once one has enough cities working on high economy tiles. Not in the near future though.

                • What is enough gold? What am I a mind reader? The diplomacy system is just a plain piece of crap that takes centuries to even get a simple deal done, let alone do back and forth negotiating. You offer a tech, I offer gold, I never hear back from you. At least in the SP game I can get some sort of hint of what the AI wants for the tech. Here I don't even get the courtesy of a counter offer.

An as for when I get enough cities to get tech going. I t has taken 4.5 months to get this far. How I am to believe we will be going any faster.

                  • The diplomacy does suck in game. The best thing to do is negotiate through email to decide on what you want to trade and then do it in 1 turn.

The game will pick up. In the meantime let's try to come up with a time that will work for all of us to meet and go through some turns. A weekend would probably be the best.
