Well, if you have any ideas how to fix this:

"CD-ROM Drive: This device is not working properly because Windows cannot load the drivers required for this device. (Code 31)"

then let me know. I tried to reinstall the driver but it didn't help.

I don't think I can fix this on my own so best case scenario seems to be Monday evening. Realistically, Wednesday is more likely. If it turns out to be a hardware problem (I don't think so, but not impossible), then at least a week.

Jshelr, as a workaround, I offer my place in the 3star game to you (permanently, if you want it). This way you all could proceed at least with one game. Let me know what you think.

I've seen this problem before it relates to Adaptec's Easy CD Creator on a Win2K system. (For information about that particular problem, see Paula Sharick, "Various Hardware Issues; New Bug Fixes," http://www.winnetmag.com, InstantDoc ID 23274.) I suspect, however, that your situation is upgrade-related, in which case a registry hack might resolve the problem. Open a registry editor and go to the HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Contro l\Class\{4D36E965-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318} subkey. Remove the Upperfilters and Lowerfilters values, then restart your computer.
