  • hi guys,
As I hope to aquire C3C soon I decided to have a peak at what's happening in MP online. I guess your thread is a postive example of how PBEM can be played. The slowness is obvious but if I'd be in 2 or 3 of those PBEM's it won't be too time consuming and still enough of a challenge. It's funny to see how you're getting to know one another from starting the game untill now. Do you use lost calls to warn one another it's his turn?

I'm curious how things are proceeding in game. Good luck to you all. Maybe I'm able to join one time.

      • @ ikkuh:

Well we've picked up speed since one of the players left the game (he started the game, but left because he thought the speed was not fast enough). Since then we're moving along quite quick, sometimes 2 turns per player every day.
If you keep in mind that we're from 4 different countries and 2 different time-zones (Norway,Spain, Australia and Germany) it's not bad. We've even done a 'session' on a sunday when we were all online for 4 hours or so. We managed 6 turns every player in this session.

A tip for you: if you're joining a PBEM, look for one with no more than 4 players. More players slow down the speed of the game (I'm expieriencing that in 2 of my other games, both with 7 players each -> We haven't managed to make more than 20 turns each player in about 3 months).

            • haha.. I know of all the details you stated Iron Jackson. Don from Boston left. He argued he wanted to play C3C instead.
I even read about Bongo's stag party (cheers mate) and his marriage (congrats mate) including honeymoon. Paddy's advice on how things will get more relaxed in 2 years.
I presume C3C will have PBEM as well and as I mentioned before I think it will be a good way to play for me. Over Christmas I'll have time to try some normal MP's first.
The only thing in my way is obtaining a copy. My local "dealer" promised me it was on its way.

              • There's a thread about availablity in the 'conquests' forum. I'm pretty sure some 'Holländers' have got it already.

You only know the 'official' story though, there's a lot of stuff going on in the background that won't be revealed until the end of the game. We are starting to meet in-game, make deals etc. And of course the 'hidden' communication by mail, icq etc.

Don's decision to leave the game were 'helped' by the fact that I had a unit outside his undefended capitol

                  • I read about it and couldn't quite place if it was on purpose of misfortune for Don. From the pic I take it you gave him an unfortunate suprise.
I can imagine his enthusiasm going towards freeze point. The AI can be hushed away, but a human player just knocks you out.
C3C should be in stores. Last weekend I came at the store 10 minutes before closing time and they allready wouldn't let me in. I feel like buying at another shop now, but couldn't find a shop that has C3C. The first shop did mention they thought they had it lying in the back (just coming in).
This evening the shops are open and I'll have a walk by. I will get a copy eventually.

Diplomacy has started. That should be the big thrill. With the AI it comes down to trying to become a filthy rich trader of techs.

                    • I don't think Don's enthusiasm were that big before that warrior entered his territory, but it completely dissapearred afterwards.

I was just doing my 'walk around and explore' routine when I discovered his empty capitol. Getting rid of the romans that early, when they were that close, was just too good an opportunity to be missed.

Apart from that, we're having a nice little group here. So nice that it will be difficult to start wars, maybe we just go for a space race?

                          • How's your biorythm Iron Jackson?

I managed to get a C3C copy! Only one in the store. First went to another store (same franchise) where they claimed it hadn't been out yet otherwise they would have had it.

Anyway if one (or more) of you are interested in a PBEM with C3C I'll have a go.

Bongo, So Don explored like you did, but wat unfortunate to have you find him first?! It has by the way just happened to me in a scenario in C3C. Turned out not too bad, I grabbed the city back and it started Golden Age as expected. I was allready having a Scientific Age. Haven't checked if it adds up. I like the game for its extensive tuning possibilities, but some people take it so far I wonder what else they do in life. I traded 2 times 3 workers with neighboors. I wonder why they give them away. Nice way to pump up your city and boost production.

                            • We met about halfways(which was really close). Don did the mistake of exploring with ALL his units, I had one in my capitol at all times.
