Meeting civs is not important at all. You cant trade techs because it's the rule, and you cant trade lux and resources until the late Middle Ages.

You mean we made a rule that we can never trade techs with the other civs? I was not aware of that one.

Yes, this rule took place from the beginning.

Btw it isn't that bad thing, without corruption advances will flow fast enough, and after contacts are made, the price drop for techs known by other civs will help to keep pace.

I check F7 every turn, and the Pyramids weren't yet built when I had the save.

No one built the Pyramids. I just didnt want to waste another 20 turns on them in my most productive city.
