Many miles away in Sanohgwadrae' Chief Onhonsa of the Mohawks also wanted to punish his enemies and force them to accept his authority; but it did not occur to him to pray to the Great Sprit to deliver these things to him for he was to busy preparing his army to take them should the opportunity arise. Nor did he bother asking the Great Spirit to create such an opportunity for he knew full well that it’s fabrication was well under way.

The Seneca were a diverse tribe. They were builders, scribes and merchants and while no one man could claim to speak for them all; their chief, Oiwagonyes, was at least supposed to try. Aknohwe’s teachings that wealth was commensurate with respect and personal freedom had made a deep impact on a tribe that comprised most of the nation’s skilled laborers. Like most chiefs Oiwagonyes had grown especially wealthy, but as a Seneca he was obligated to carry out orders from those who thought themselves his betters.
