Sorry, there are too many tracking threads for me to notice one popping up
I have indeed done as Rommel said above - been trying to get someone to reset my password with the admin password, as somehow my password got changed and/or damaged. Not sure how, except that in one of my games (possibly this one) I discovered that there's a mostly-broken password-change-method (some combination of ctrl or alt and shift and P I think) that doesn't seem to do anything. (I have a Dvorak keyboard, which maps the R key to P, hence why I discovered it on accident.) It's possible that broke the password (it doesn't let you put in a new one, is the problem). I've tried a blank password and the old one, plus various combinations of my usual passwords ... nothing works ;(
The other theoretical possibility is always that we go back a whole year, which for some reason I haven't thought of yet, due to my absolute stupidity. To be safe I'm going to have to go back and personally replay the previous year's turn. I shall do that now.
However, the lack of administrator is a problem - I emailed LN (the supposed admin) the same day it occurred, a long long time ago ...<Reverend> IRC is just multiplayer notepad.

The problem with the original post-
-is really the only part relevant to what we're discussing. The first bit is confusing because I think it is not meant to apply to the FFA game. The second bit, attributed to snoopy by Beta, seems to contradict what snoopy has since promoted (restricting map information until the tech is discovered vs no restrictions past contact). This demonstrates my point on how throwing out abmiguous statements about using 'common sense' and giving a few examples here and there is worse than useless- Civ3PBEM has so many grey areas and questionable tactics, any decent game should have (preferably) an exhaustive list of what is expected that can be referred to if need be, or (less preferably but still better than a sloppy 'we all intend to play nice' statement) an upfront agreement that all questionable tactics and exploits are acceptable.
If anyone would like to suggest another exploit list or draw up their own, I'm open to ideas, but would like to have something...<Reverend> IRC is just multiplayer notepad.
