Krill, are you saying there is a problem with the actual SAV file? Or are you saying that for the past four turns Chrisius has not been receiving your emails with the SAVs attached? I'm not sure how a neutral observer would help - either Chrisius gets the save or he doesn't. Sorry I'm not quite sure what your getting at.

    • I spoke to Krill, he says that they are doing a diplomatic trade, but chris doesn't get the pop-up when he opens the save.

a neutral observer could sanity check it for us

        • Okay we're faffing again guys. Is this trade that Chrisius claims not to recieve any reason to hold up the game?

Chrisius wouldn't give out his password last time. Is he now prepared to do so to this neutral observer?

Those feelings of frustration at slow turn pace are starting to return.

          • i've had no problems sending and recieving diplomatic trades - it is unlikey Chris is suffering from a previously unknown C3C bug, it's more likely to be operator error somewhere on the chain

            • Agreed. Never in all my PBEMs have i heard of anything like this. Krill, without going into sensitive detail, what is your diplo procedure and how have you tried to help sort out the problems from Chrisius' end?

              Comment

              • OK. I enter F4 when in the movement phase of the game.

Then I click on Chrisius' Icon, entering the diplomacy screen.

I then click on the items I want to trade, so they are on the table.

I have sent these accepted and unaccepted, on different occasions.

I don't know what is happening Chrisius end, but I have seen this happen in demogames, where the diplo screen does not pop up at the start of the turn at all.

                ---

But it has never happened for more than one turn (ie never twice in a row).

We could ask Paddy to have a look at his save, just to make sure. I can't think of any PBEMer more neutral than Paddy.

                • Thanks Krill. I'll email Paddy with the save in case he has Chrisius' password. If not and if Chrisius is happy with this course of action then he will need to forward his password asap.

Is this issue the reason why Chrisius has not played his save since the 24th?

                  • Paddy is ok by me to have my password Ill sort it out with him.

About the 24th yes me and krill have chatted about this issue now for the last 4 turns this has been happening. Krill said he would raise the issue on the thread, and were here at this point now.

Basically me and Krill did a deal some turns back, he has tried to send over his items to me on 4 occasions but i never get the offer when i start my turn.

We have discussed whether its an oversight on Krill's part but he has made sure to send the trades especially with us chatting about the failiure for the last few turns.

Ill let you know if theres a problem shortly.

                    • OK Paddy has looked at this save and cannot find a bug, weve agreed a course of action whereas paddy will receive a screenie from krill to show the trades being sent.

                      Save is with krill.

                      • I wonder what the issue could be - another bug.. 1 last example of how the multiplayer part of C3C is an add-on rather than a proper feature.. *sigh*

I hope civ 4 can at least show me the enemy moves that killed my units

                        • The only way I could see that happening is if they encoded the battle reports in the CIV save, and then wrote a program that could read the CIV saves and extract the battle report.

                          • no it would be much easier than that, just write a text string into an array for each battle - automated battle reports like we currently manually generate.

At the start of your turn, you get a turn report that lists battles, items built (instead of 20 stupid pop-ups) events that took place (paddy built the Cure for Cancer)

With the automated battle report, and if you know what the RNG was for just before that battle, you can faithfull re-enact the battles in order, as the player would have seen them in SP - not a hard programming task at all, it is shocking it's not in C3C, IMO.

And the save is posted, as I heard your email was down.
