Oh, I've been on the dark side for a while now. I've just been hiding it. Remember Iron Civer? Actually, it's Paddy the Scot who has been "coming out" lately, with some rather despicable unprovoked acts that should not be mentioned here

So, do I get a guernsey?

There's still room for you. Just remember, Paddy has the Celts.

        And comments are appreciated.

Barbarian movement occurs during the last player's turn, so they would be the one that needs the flag fixed...

Thanks for the info. This setting is pretty important for the game, so I'll take the last place in the turn order. Just in case.

            First post updated.

Oh, and are you joining the game, perhaps?

After considering, I decided to disallow settling in Desert tiles. We won't be able to Irrigate them either. This means that some land will remain unclaimed for a long time, except with military patrols. Good for the barbs.

As much as I would like it, a completely random map probably won't assure comparable starts. Especially starts in equal danger of being overrun by the barbs. So the map will be slightly tweaked for that purpose, possibly not only by moving starting locations. None of us will know for sure, since we won't be preparing it ourselves.

This thread will sit here until Monday, to wait for more players. I'll bump it tomorrow evening, if it's too quiet. Then the settings will be sent to the person making the map (if I find one till then ). I'll be gone starting Monday afternoon and will be back Wednesday morning, so that's when I plan to start the game. I'll make a separate tracker thread when that happens and PM you all.

Is the world still arid and warm? I don't see why non settling or irrigating desert is a good idea?

I'd rather let us use desert and make the world 3 billion years old instead.

The point of having an arid and warm world and forbid settling deserts is simple. It is to have a large desert that remains civilization-free. For the barbs to roam, of course.

This works together with having an old world. It makes the planet a tad more more flat, so as to get lots of open space (deserts, plains, grasslands). This is not a requirement, as Keshiks are just as fast in mountains and would actually hurt us more coming through mountain ranges. It's more to give our pangea the feel of a vast and open land. Some jungle and forests would have to be cleared by the map maker.

Sorry, but even with only a half dozen games now I sometimes don't have enough time to play them. My sporadic periods of free time are used to surf the forums and help out or heckle delinquent players as I see fit.

If you don't mind i'd love to play, as Arabia. If any civ is fit to deal with vast deserts full of dangerous roaming barbarians, it's the Arabs ...

I know it's late to say this, but I have to say that the Celts and perhaps even more so the Persians i'd argue get a bigger advantage than the Greeks or the Carthaginians. That, and Expansionists probably get a bigger bonus than Militarist civs (i'd think by quite a bit).

That said, i'm not too worried about any of them being in the game ... i'm happy to pit my Arabs against a Celtic civ any day, barbs or no barbs
