What's a diplo game???Is God willing to prevent evil, but not able? Then he is not omnipotent. Is he able, but not willing? Then he is malevolent. Is he both able and willing? Then whence cometh evil? Is he neither able nor willing?
Then why call him God? - Epicurus

A long large game with much players on a large world in multiple sessions.
Because the world is that big it's important to have allies, and use diplomacy rather than pure force to survive.
If you're a warmonger and kick the hell out of your neighbours you might see an alliance of 7 players against you (like Iraque right now )
those games are cool and the best!

I'm in Europe and interested in good long games. I'm sick of those random people from Gamespy who leave without any warning just because they lost a city or even failed to take one. I'm usually available during evenings and weekends, and will have plenty of time during the Christmas holidays. However, I doubt we'll manage to find enough people right now to start today
What do you have in mind for the game settings and amount of human players? Right now I've never succeeded in hosting or joining a game with more than 3 human players And what about the turns mode? I like sim.turns, it should be OK if we don't have too much wars. Turnbased is ok too, but I don't like turnless, Civ is not a RTS"Great artists have no country."

Let's try to find more people first, and than try to find good play-dates.
I prefer turn-based over simultaniously. Turnless is no good indeed.
I think it's possible to play with 6-8 people, but only if the ping is low. With people from europe (western?) that must be possible.Formerly known as "CyberShy"

I sure am. Count me in. Did not get a chance to play over the Internet yet and am looking forward to a good game. But...... do you really expect to be able to play with many players on a large world?
From what I have read about it sofar, this is impossible.Franses (like Ramses).

Yesterday, I've had a nice game with 5 players for 1 hour (then some quitted, but I don't think it was connection related). The matchmaking had been made through DirectIP. Some players were in the US and some in Europe. If everybody is in Europe, it should be possible to have even more players."Great artists have no country."

If we focus on low-ping, it must be possible.
And of course we can join through IP if things fail.
It's not so bad if there's a crash or two.
Pherhaps we should install ICQ for chatting,
since civ3 chat fairly doesn't work, and chatting is very
important in a diplomacy game.Formerly known as "CyberShy"

I just come back from a sim.turns 3 players game with 2 German guys... Not a single lag, it was brilliant (except that they were always chatting in German and I didn't understand anything... maybe they were plotting some evil plan against me ). Matchmaking worked through Gamespy.
I agree about ICQ for chatting if a patch doesn't fix the text-wrap thing quickly. I haven't got the voice chat thing to work too... I fear it may slow down the connexions anyway."Great artists have no country."
