Hum. I accidentally attacked a sub, sunk it, and 25 minutes later after staring at a blank screen, I was informed that "We have destroyed the Fledging Soviets"

All Modo's cities have been destroyed. Maybe it was the red october I sank..

So.. I think there might be a bug with using Hidden Nationality with Subs, and I suggest we turn that option off and I'll try again.

But for the record, that's NATO 1, Warsaw PACT 0.

Oh, bugger. That was the fastest defeat so far.

EDIT: Posted a version without Hidden Nationality for Subs. Please make sure to turn off the victory points, regicide, and other "funny" (read: buggy) stuff.

I think we should start out about historically. That means the NATO and the SEATO working together, and China and the Warsaw Pact looking like they are working together . Later we can play as it comes, although I would discourage a Republic having good relations with a Communist.

As to the said historical aggression, that is partly out of our hands. You know the AI - they might do strange things.

Okay, I don't want to hamstrung myself, but should I let Japanese cities build military units?

I agree that SEATO should allow NATO units to base in Japan and elsewhere. That would be historically accurate. I got the general idea of what we are trying to do.

Only if you want to. I will not require everyone to try and repeat history. I mean, I play the Warsaw Pact - the ones that lost.

That too aplies only if you want to. What I meant the most, was putting the original alliances to a test, by not making them forced.

Posted the updated scenario. Hopefully it will work this time.

Looking forward to this one. I expect the saves will take awhile, but we have reliable players. Moonbars - don't worry about your availability. I don't see this as a lightning game.

As to rolpelay and game restrictions - all I was suggesting was that I act line the Chairman of Communist China - and not like a Monty Python escapee or something like that. I am not hard core about the roleplay side - but I think it does add flavour and fun. The diplomacy in another age game is a good case in point (right Modo ). So, I for one will act like China.. but I will also act in the best interests of China, historical accuracy aside. I don't think we should be hamstrung by that. We are here to explore how other scenarios and alliances may have played out - so I would say that pretty much anything goes.

Chairman Beta Xi Jiang waits patiently in his office.

Well, I think we should play it with total historical accuraccy

But then I would say that..

Mod - anything shaking with this game. Hordes of Chinese infantry are ready and waiting....

I have sat down to play it, but that first turn takes about an hour to *load* on my system. I understand load times will be fine once we are up and running, but bear with me whilst I find enough free time to get the first save out. I've been having PC problems, and have needed to re-install a lot of stuff I need for work, and am behind on said work..

Ouch. I guess we wait then. As to the loading time, remember not to Alt-Tab out of it. Gets a little faster that way - not much, but useful.

I've loaded the game a few times and the system requirements are TREMENDOUS.

I just bought a new machine last December (Athlon64 3400+ chip with 1 gig of RAM, latest nVidia card w/ 256 megs) and my system still strains to load this scenario.

As Modo states, once it's loaded, it works fine. We may have to make a rule stating no pillaging roads and/or destroying harbors. Waiting for the system to update the trade network may be prohibitive

For the first "initialization" turn, you might want to turn off any programs running in the background. I mean as many as you can. Set it up, and let it run. Do not Alt+Tab out of Civ, until the turn is open and you can move your units.

I run a 1.8GHz processor (the name says 2500, but I know they lie ), 512MB RAM. It takes about 5 minutes to initialize this scenario in SP, not much longer to initialize MP. The only really long turn, was the exchange of nukes between AIs, when I played as a small country. That took 15 minutes.

Yes, nuke exchanges take a long time. I assume it's the disruption to the trade network (updates), the graphics of the ICBM, while running a heavy load from the scenario to start with.

I agree...no Alt-Tab and things eventually load. It's a cool scenario...probably better as multiplayer than single player.
