See, I can't understand why *everyone* doesn't do it this way. I certainly do, and it is just simply the easiest way, unless you have very small HD space (which in this day and age of USD$.80 per GB, USD$.80 shouldn't be too much to pay for a few thousand civ saves).

You just navigate to your save folder (3 or 4 at the most sets of clicks) and then click on the last save, and then edit the year... less work by far. I of course have separate save folders for each game (in the save subfolder), which makes it even easier... as long as people keep the save format the same !!!!!

        • That's the way I do it too, though I use "PLAYERNAME, GAMENAME, YEAR", also using a leading zero for years between 1000BC znd 1000AD

                • Sorry, I didn't get it because the post I made today in the absences thread had a typo. My correct address is in the first post of this thread. It hasn't changed - what will change is the address of my work, from which I have been sending you guys my threats.

                        • Which leaves me the choice of firing up civ (Yeah, the 10+ year old original!! Gawd the diplomacy sucks ) while I wait, or go to sleep

                          • I've had numerous PC problems.

My favorite is the one that caused me to replace one of my HDs. after moving all the data off it (just had MP3 and some DVDs on it) and swapping in the new drive, plus the new DVD burner I got at the same time, windows (which is installed on a different drive) refused to let me using MS Office, saying "MS Office has detected a signifigant change in your HW config and you must re-activate office" That sucks because:

                            a) The hardware change was hardly "signifigant"
                            b) I needed to insert the Office CD and I couldn't find it
                            c) It suddenly dawned on me that my office CD was in my OLD dvd rom, and i'd need to power that back up to get it out of the tray.

Moral of the story? Install Linux or buy a MAC!
Or remember to empty our old CD drives before upgrading
