I take it you haven't tried WindowsFileBox=1 in your .ini file?

            • Not as elegant as the default manager. I think it would be better to torture Bongo until he renounces his heresies...

                  • How do you guys organize your saves anyway? If you play in more than *one* PBEM you can be pretty sure naming will be somewhat erratic.

I try to stick with the generic *name of game*,*name of player after me*,*date*.SAV

Occasionally I mix up the first two, or forget the exact spelling of the game.

                        • I am in the process of writing a little email client that tracks saves, names them, and mails them. Biggest issue so far is working out what the save will be called when u exit out of civ3. i am thinking I might have to read the save, and extract the world seed, as a way of IDing all the games. Or have the user always save the game as "outbound.sav" or somesuch.

                          • The game already makes a name proposal for your saves. Problem is of course that you may have more than one PBEM using the same tribe- and player name.

I am doing this the manual way now, it's a bit of extra work but not that much. And I have total control

                            • Once I create a new name for the save (usually GAMENAMEtoNEXTPLAYER_YEAR), I leave the last few saves in the folder. When saving a game, I click on the digit of an old save and type in the new year with a single keystroke, maintaining the same name template. It also helps to put a 0 at the front of the year between 1000BC and 1000AD.
