  • Actually, it's Makahlua, if she's off Warcrack by any chance. If she isn't, Paddy will be called in again. This is becoming less and less a temporary replacement, more like a complete takeover. Oh well.

Let's give it a day to find out. E-mailing Maki now.
    Seriously. Kung freaking fu.

Yes, I agree, it is possible to take over cities with Wonders, but as far as I remember, Great Wonders give each turn culture points only if they are build by the given civ. This is what I remember from PTW. Has that changed in Conquests? In this case the value of a Wonder which was not built by us is lower. I consider cultural points from Wonders as one of the best benefits.

Culture helps making "peaceful" conquests. Am I right that we already had 3 flips in this game? I got Pi-Ramesses flipped. It was not a war, not a single unit was lost there, got free musketeer instead.

Culture still isn't generated by captured wonders. But many of them work throughout the game, so they are worth capturing nonetheless. Also note, that taking culture away from others helps your civ.

The problem is, you get the cities close by, not the really powerful ones. So it has much less impact on your opponent that good old conquest. Flips are nice, but I usually prefer to make war for a while, to get my borders straight, and my enemies trimmed to a more manageable size.

        No aswer from Maki yet.

There is though still a positive side:

          - No war costs like - less trade, lost military, etc.
          - Smaller cities - less "other nation" citizens making problems like in case of those large ones. If such captured city has good terrain around it can also grow rapidly when treated properly. so it's almost like getting that large one.

The problem may be that still that other civ has that large cities. There is balance somewhere there.

In a normal game - yes. In this game we're playing - no. Civ3 requires too much careful planning and managing to win a peaceful game. This is much harder in here, because players with different styles take over, usually overthrowing many plans the previous ones have made. In war this is less of a problem, that at peace.

Anyway, I think the Inca will come knocking at some point, whether we like that, or not.

Paddy, you can play when ready. Replacing Maki.

              • If Paddy still can't play, I think Snoopy should take it now. Same goes for the Viking game. I hope Snoopy can make it in the near future.

                    • AD 1365: not much ... worked on a few buildings and had a bunch of workers who didn't have much to do, waiting on steam power. Adjusted tech and luxury levels...

AD 1370: Build some hospitals ... not much.

AD 1375: France declares war on Japan! (Um, ok that was boring.) Iroquois pay 47gpt for sanitation plus some assortment of things they have available to them. Lots of folks are building Longevity now ... who knows maybe we'll finish it first ... Also worked on some efficiencies (made the worker pump work 2 turns).

AD 1380: Hmm, i need a courthouse in edessa to do the 2 turn pump. That's corruption! Also had to redo 2 deals for luxuries...but that's ok, tons of cash coming after next turn!!

                      AD 1385: not much ...

AD 1390: Woot! Coal already roaded (outside Adrianople). But guess who just finished steam engine? :cries: Can't get ANYTHING for it, everyone has it that has anything to trade, can't even get NATIONALISM for it ... *sigh* On to Electricity (7 turns)... and workers in several cities.

AD 1395: nada ... just more workers. Modo, I have to say this is the first game i've ever played with ya that i thought you didn't build enough workers

AD 1400: not much, more railroads

AD 1405: Well then this is a railroad building turn isn't it?

AD 1410: More railroads ... and Edessa can now do 2 turn worker pump! (I used a six-stack of workers to RR around it until it had enough food, and forethinking meant i mined a key square pre-steam power to work it out)

On to the next player ... GrandpaTroll!

Strategy: well, um, railroads? Hopefully Electricity will sell for something ... like 300gpt from spain?

Nobody will sell you Nationalism, except for 3rd trier techs at the very least. The AI values this tech too much, so don't bother. Researching is not an option, as it only stalls you from the really juicy targets (Industrialization, Scientific Method, Replaceable Parts). Forget Nationalism, except if headed for Communism for a Domination win. Let the AI research it, while you sell them the mandatory techs one by one.

You should have seen the situation I saw... I did set up the Worker-pumps, and they only managed to help so much during my time. I didn't make Workers in other cities, because we have little enough growth already. It seemed like a waste to take citizens out.
