    • Soo, another King Modo takes the Viking throne...

Now there's a loooot of land to look after. How did the previous Kings manage? I don't know, but they must have been good.

[EDIT: It says turn 288 on the F8 screen. So, how many do I get to play now? Snoopy, what do you think - can I go till 300? ]

      Some of the first moves:

      1490 AD
      • Astronomy to Sumeria for Wines, World Map.
      • Astronomy, Economics to the Hitties for Spices, Music Theory, World Map.
      • Astronomy to the Ottomans for 110gp, world Map.
      • Sign peace with Japan, for World Map, and Kagoshima. Now, that was a dumb move by Mr T.
      • Switch research to Stem Power. Going for Railorad, and Industrialization first, even if Communism or Fascism is tempting here...
      • Switch Trondheim to Newton's University (15 turns, our most productive city).
      • Switch Stockholm to Military Academy (16 turns, our second most productive city).
      • Switch Barcelona (the size 2 city that was doing Palace forever) to J.S.Bach's Cathedral. Lost 13 shields, wonder will be done in a turn, and we will never have to worry about riots at home again.
      • Switch cities near the capital to Universities.
      • Rush some buildings in Scandinavia.
      • Switch many builds in former Persia to Courthouses. The corruption there is bad.
      • Change Worker assignments in former Persia- Plains should be irrigated, rather than mined, most of the time.
      • Completely shut down research facilities for now, to get cash for further rushes. We need to get lots of infrastructure up in former Persia. We need some culture in conquered lands. The joys of a huge empire. Oh well, we have a healthy tech lead, so it's no biggie.
      • Turn on governors for all cities. Then turn them off for a couple that needed some MM. MM-ing all of them isn't possible, and I'd rather have some inefficiency, than riots. Tsis is especially true for conquered cities - when rioting, they have a bigger chance of flipping.
      • Doing a Settler at home. After all, we want to rebuild Grandpa's Trolldom. (as a worker-pump for railroading )

So much for the domestic part...

      • Now, let's get our hands dirty with Greece. We be the Vikings, we burn things.

        1490 AD (contiued)
        • Abandon Argos.
        • Abandon Athens.
        • Abandon Sparta.
        • Abandon Thermopylae.
        • Abandon Knossos.
        • Cavalry moves out towards Delphi.
        • Cavalry moves out towards Thessalonica.

Many wonders and buildings were destroyed, and even if the Greeks manage to rebuild cities, they will never be as powerful again. And their culture is now officially toast. The plan is to raze any cities we can with the few remaining Cavalry regiments, then take back Eretria, then sign peace. We need a long time-out, before going back to finish the job.

To the south is Greece after the radical burn-out. To the north you can see Kagoshima, Viking again. The MedInf was necessary, because of a Greek Longbowman sitting near the city.

        • 1495 AD
          • Barcelona builds J.S. Bach's Cathedral, starts... another Palace prebuild. I'm sure it will come in handy, and there's nothing useful to build here anyway.
          • The Koreans land in Scandnavia. Two MedInfs.
          • Some serious Frigate building starts at home. We can't upgrade these ships, but we need something to kill those pesky foreigners before they land.
          • Education, Printing Press to Japan for Worker, Gems, World Map, 6gp. Not cheap, but hey - we just signed peace, it's not like we're friends...
          • Just noticed the Workers in Scandinavia. A tip for all: Tundra tiles should have Forests put on them, not Mines. Unfortunately the stupid Worker-automation of Civ3 keeps building Mines, so it needs to be done by hand.
          • Rush Temples on Island, to expand borders (the city placement dictates it, so it needs to be done quickly).
          • Upgrade Caravels to Galleons. Now they can carry 4 units, and they go faster.
          • Attacks on Thessalonica and Delphi fail. It seems the Hoplites are better defenders than Musketmen. Gotta love the RNG. Oh well, those were suicide missions anyway.
          • Research on Steam power sterted with a Scientist. It might shave a turn off, once we make some real research again.

          1500 AD
          • Cavalry regiments exiting the burnt greek lands become great fighters. A new leader arises, who will bring them home safely (I hope).
          • Pearl's Pleasure Craft, Pergamon Ferry, and Toledo Ferry II (a bit far from home, eh? ) begin their journey from Risor. Destination: the Celtic city of ratae Coritanorum. ETA: 7 turns. Load: 11 Cavalry regiments, 1 Musketmen regiment. Guess what the plan is...
          • 11 Cavalry regiments prepare the assault on Nemascus. This is massive overkill, so it should be quick.
          • Ivory, Furs, 12gpt to the Iroquis for Incense. We want to keep We Love The King Day in as many cities as possible, because those lose less shields to corruption.
          • The Iroquis destroy the Chinese. Looks like we have our next candidate for a serious trimming... Not during this King's time, though.
Here, I noticed some ships away from home, fortified. Please, don't do this - they are very hard to find on a huge map.

          1505 AD
          • Everyone loves the King. Well, most people do. We know how to handle the ones that don't... Give them more luxuries.
          • Nemasus captured. That makes Island free from Celtic infestation.
          • Grandpa's Trolldom rebuilt!
          • Our Great Leader, Hubba, builds an Army in Marathon. Now he can do some serious damage to the Greeks in Eretria.
          • The Celts and the Koreans land some units on Island. They all die.

          1510 AD
          • Some more Celts enter Island. Erik Blodaxe leads our glorious Cavalry to victory!
          • Frist attack on Eretira commences. But some defenders survive... for now.

          1515 AD
          • Greece pays India to declare war on us. For those of you, who can't recall India - that's one of the civs doing OCC in this game. They can't really reach us. But hey, nothingagainst some more War Happiness.
          • Seoul (Korean) builds Shakespeare's Theatre. Looks like we have another candidate for trimming - Korea.
          • Some Frigates are ready at home. And they start sinking Korean ships.
          • Eretira captured again!
          • Signed peace with Greece for 145gp, 8gpt.

          1520 AD
          • Falun (in former Persia) turned into a worker pump. Beginning preparations for railroading.
          • Rush a Granary in Grandpa's Trolldom. This is going to be another worker pump. We need all workers we can muster, before railroad becomes available.
          • Saltpeter, Furs, Ivory to Greece for 102gpt. We need cash.
          • Kill some more Celts on Island. Lose some Cavalry in the process. Darned RNG.

          1530 AD
          • Found Alesund in former Greece. A Viking should not flip so easy...
          • Banking to the Ottomans for 26gp,7gpt, World Map.
          • Astronomy to the French for 40gp, World Map.
          • Finally, a surprise party is held on Celtic land. Remember the three Galleons full of troops? Well, they just unloaded their cargo.

          • And here it is, we kicked the Celts in the... Well, I'm sure you can guess where we kicked them.

The Musketman was lost in the Cletic counter-attack, so no prolonged defense was possible. That's why peace was signed with the Celts. For now. We got 120gp, 2gpt, and their World Map.

Luckily, the infrastructure was preserved almost without a scratch, so all we need to do is get rid of the Celts, and rush some culture.

              • The Koreans pay the Zulu to join them against us. That's not very nice, as it takes our Silks away.
              • Others have reached the Viking tech level now. So, the science slider needs to go up again. Steam Power in 8 turns.
              • The Greeks have Medicine, and lots of cash, again. Perhaps it wasn't so clever to let them go. Oh well, what can I say in my defense...
              • Trading our luxuries for Celtic luxuries, to replace the lost Silks.

Ok, so that's how it ends, for me, for now. The empire is somewhat consolidated, but there's still a lot to do, before former Persia will become useful. I don't know if it's possible at all - save for a few cities - if we stay in Monarchy.

Here's how the Viking homeland looked like, 1550 AD:
