Oh, and one change I made and think we definitely need to make if we're playing archipelagos was to give curraghs a transport capacity of one. It's not a major human factor (you're not going to use it much) but it raises the AI build rate for curraghs a lot - from almost never to sometimes. It's a recommended mod by most, and makes naval-type games much more ... interesting. Otherwise AIs just fart around until at least mapmaking (which is a medium to low priority anyways ).

Just a note. A huge archipelago might become unbearable later on because of turn times. And I mean on fast computers.Seriously. Kung freaking fu.

(By AD 250, which is where I finished for the night, turn times were still fine on an Athlon XP 2200+ 1.5gb ram homebuilt machine. A few seconds of noticeable delay, but only a few. Of course, I'd expect it to get longer as the game goes on - but it hasn't so far, maybe 1 sec total more than it was towards the beginning.)<Reverend> IRC is just multiplayer notepad.

Snoop, no worries, get that game started as you like it. It's not a turn by turn time investment of many months. If we lose or run into some troubles, it's just part of the game and we could start a new game.don't worry about things you have no influence on...

Snoopy, the more water, the more time turns take later in the game. I remember reading somewhere that the algorithm for trade routes gets really slow when there are too many water tiles present. This becomes drastic, once trade routes can go through sea and even more so, when oceans become open. No big worry, just get a book to read while playing civ.Seriously. Kung freaking fu.

Hmm. And I assume you mean more different patches of water (since a 70% water archipelago has the same number of water tiles as a 70% water pangea)?
I'll be finding out eventually anyhow. I'm going to play for hours today my test game.<Reverend> IRC is just multiplayer notepad.

And I adjusted the players in game 1, since 3 people accepted England, and 2 of us didn't care, for a non-au mod game. The second game can fight it out later.
And as mcmeadows said this game will be much shorter than a PBEM game, so it's not something to worry so much about. (Although at 5 turns later on, it's not THAT much shorter. )<Reverend> IRC is just multiplayer notepad.

Thanks for the invite Snoopy, but with my finals and the holidays just around the corner, I'm not going to start any more new games at this time.____________________________

I'll start it later on today. I do want to test how slow it gets later on. I have sort of an extra day off this week (i'm working tonight at 10pm) so I have plenty of time to do it - but i'll definitely start it today or at the latest tomorrow.<Reverend> IRC is just multiplayer notepad.
