That really amazes me, but surely that isn't the norm. Especially with players in so many different time zones.
Yes, in our civ2 diplogames we had players from all over the world. It was easy to agree on a time schedule when you knew the game would flow (ten to twenty turns a 3 to 4 hour session).
The reason why we could play online is that civ2 MP is far better made in terms of connectivity, amount of data to be transferred and overall speed of play than civ3 MP.
We must face it that civ3 MP demands a broadband connection and a very powerful new computer with loads of memory in order to provide a mediocre MP performance which can't match in terms of speed even a dial-up civ2 MP game.
It seems like the Civ3 Apolyton University plays its next course as PBEM in diplomacy game style. Perhaps you move your effort there? You should post in this thread if you are interested. Ozzy, I reckon they also could use your excellent diplo game ruleset.

the whole point of mp is to have instantaneous diplomacy available, the heat of battle type stuff. cantbe done with pbem,...
to make this work we need people who love the game, not people who are used to SP (which basicvally is all pbem is)
wait hold da preesses..
why would you say "we need people whom love the game instead of those whom are used to playing sp"
I love the game and because my schedule doesnt permit me currently to sit with 6-8 people doesnt mean I dont love the game
Ok.just straightenting you out..
remember..sp..doesnt mean we are less in love with this game

i am talking about loving the MP game, the differences between pbem and mp usually mean the two groups of people never change to the other type.
i haqve palyed both forms and whilst pbem is good for a quick game it is nowhere near the depth of play found in mp game.
you accuse me of stupidity and yet you misread my post .
I have played real time chess, and correspondence chess. In real time chess you can make blunders, daily form matters and environmental influence is large. In chess by mail, you have days of time for just one move. Everything is well-thought, strategies and variants are calculated to the deepest. My best parties I played in correspondence chess. It's similar in MP and PBEM. MP games may go faster and more enjoyable for the moment, but PBEM games are much deeper thought.
its the element of people making real time mistakes that add to the mp feel.... with pbem you can keep reloading till you get the result you after.....
