            Greetings, good cousin

Firstly, I wish to assure you that the Imperial Russian Empire means no harm to the King of England. We do however, remember our enemies, and Spain is certainly one of them.

Czar Alexander would like to assure your Royal Highness, King George III, of Russia's loyalty to the Imperial Grand Alliance formed in the dark days when that dastardly Republican Napolean threatened the very existence of our noble families.

I ask you, good sir....how many of our Imperial Empires have succumbed to the French way and converted to Republic? The answer is none. We are all still loyal Monarchies, with family ties between our nations that will last forever.

Please remember, oh regal cousin....Russia has always remained faithful to the ideals of the Grand Alliance. Russia has consistently supported her brother-in-arms, Lord Paddy of Prussia, in their struggle for freedom against the French despot. Prussia, you will recall, was in the front lines of the battle against the French and suffered badly at her hands. Russia has done her best to assist Prussia, by gifting her cities of conquest to restore her empire to its former glory.

Russia has also remained faithful to you, oh great King George III, in our moral support of your wars against France and Austria. It is only the tyrrany of distance that has prevented our armies from playing a more active part in the offensive wars you have conducted on the mainland against our common foe.

It is against this background of brotherhood and goodwill that I now ask you to consider your position. Through no fault of your own, you are being courted by the lies of a desperate Spanish despot....whose name we do not yet even know, since there have been 2 revolutions in his land recently. Surely Spain is going the way of France, and will become a revolutionary Republic....a form of government that as you know, is abhorrent to citizens of our class.

There is surely more for me to say to you on this subject, but it is clear that I have said enough already. The choice is clear. In fact, for your royal personage there is essentially no choice. Your heritage demands continued allegiance to your allies, Russia and Prussia.

I look forward to your considered and positive response.

            Your friend and cousin

            Alexander Romanov, of Russia
Your argument for our continuing good relations is compelling Cousin Alexander. Your fleet, however, seems to be spending rather a long time visiting our ports, as does the Prussian expedition.

The question remains, why fight a nation so far from your boundaries over the loss of a few sailors. As I understand it, this was merely the settling of an old score etched up in Sweden many years ago.

General Marcos has made strong friendly overtures, and presents no threat to your good self, nor indeed to
            Cousin Paddyschmirff.

            I face a dilemma.

The way I see it, I have some obvious choices: 1. Stand aloof from your fussin and fightin, 2. Ally with each of you, and be forced into a war against the 1st aggressor, or 3. Remain true to my original indication of loyalty to General Marcos.

            Ohh, the burdens of empire...

            • Lord Rickety

Your ageless wisdom is evident, Cousin George.

We understand now that your main concern is our ships in your territory. We have several anchored for repairs, but expect to be moving on very soon to dock in our own port. Their presence there is a security precaution against the Spanish aggressor. You will note there are no troop ships near your territory at this time, so no Russian soldiers will be setting foot on British sovereign soil.

We therefore ask you to take the first of your considered options.....stand aloof from the goings-on, which as you know are provoked by the dissension and instability of Spain. The Grand Alliance can remain supreme, regardless of the moral weakness of Spain.

              Best
              Alex

                • Letter to the Leaders of Europe:

I, General Marcos of Spain, do hereby declare that I will not begin aggressions against any of my neighbours. It is my supreme wish that Spain be left alone to grow and be prosperous. I do not wish to make the same mistakes as the former leaders of this nation. Having said that, Spain will defend itself fiercely if attacked and will call upon all noble nations to come to her aid.
                  Have a nice day.

                  • Ah Marcos, do you really think the regal personages of Europe will be misled by your sneaky lies and machiavellian tendencies?

The facts speak for themselves and are as follows:

Spain declared war on Russia, and organised military alliances against us.

Spain recently attacked and sunk 2 Russian ships in neutral waters.

For you to run away and pretend it didn't happen is both childish and politically naive. Spain has assaulted Russia's sovereignty. We demand reparations. We deman Spanish blood. The world will soon know that Russia does not bow down to aggression. Should we do so, the rest of the world would not think twice about walking all over us.

I say again to the rest of the civilised world. Russia has a legitimate grievance with Spain. Interfere at your peril.

I must admit great sadness to the way our Spanish friends treated the issue of Sweden

They sailed up into our waters, landed troops

                        attacked an allie - Russia

told us how this area of the world should be run

then took off and now hide behind a curtain of english steel

a very very sad state of affairs

                          • Well put, Prince Paddy of Prussia, kinsman to King George III of England, who is descended from the German House of Hanover

                            Lord Paddy:

Cracow is now in Russian hands. Our troops are now resting, and preparing for the spine-breaking assault on Vienna and Salzberg.

We can view your huge stack outside Prague. Is this intended for an assault on the Ottomans? If so, we can advise of many of their troop placements, as they make it their business to wander at will through our lands.

                            Lord rickety:

The war against our common foe Austria goes well. You need not worry - Russia shall obliterate them and they are no threat to the British Empire. I also note that Spain is the only Imperial Power (if indeed Power is an appropriate description of Spain) who is not at war with Austria.

                            Despot Marcos:

Russian Ships of the Line have sunk 3 of your rat-infested rotting hulks. Unfortunately my Admirals' navigation skills were less than perfect and 3 of our "cargo" ships collided and were sunk I suggest the two damaged ships of yours that remain run away like the cowards they are, or they will be sunk next month.

Wrong. Spain organised alliances against us. Russia annexed the Swedish lands. This action occurred far from the empire of Spain, and it was unwarranted Spanish interference in a war that was not hers to fight, that caused the split in the Imperial Alliance. The other Imperial powers had already acknowledged their indifference to the annexation of Sweden. Spain was alone in her protest, and did not accept the majority acquiescence.

Russia and I are at war so is it wrong to sink two ships sneaking down the coast towards Spain?
No, of course not. However your actions simply provide more evidence of your evil intentions towards Russia.

No more words. Cross our borders and we shall speak with cannon and rifle.
A final message to the Spanish Despot:

When our troops do cross your borders, as they surely will do soon, your "cannon and rifle" will be eliminated before they are able to fire a shot. Pray to your god and prepare yourself for annihilation.

                              • I have offered Spain a Mutual Protection Pact.

Note that I do not consider this an act of aggression to any other nation, only if another nation aggresses Spain.
