I guess we could do that, but then B would not be allowed to ask for a restart, even if the restart places him in a terrible start.

In other words you get the option to keep your civ but it counts as a request to restart (everyone gets a max of one request to restart). Otherwise the odds would be skewed in favor of the players with good (i.e. agricultural) civilizations in the first start.

    How does that sound?

      sounds good.

so the rule would be something like this:

everybody has exactly 1 veto which can be used for EITHER
      - restart because of any reason (crappy starting location or bad civ)
      OR
      - keep the civ you were assigned in the last try [for all future restarts?]

as for the last position (slot B), eliitmees (eastern europe) may fit in to that profile, or possibly some western european (conqueror? chrisiusmaximus? kermit_the_frog?).

you said that may 5 is better if we want to get more than 2 turns per day in. for that, we should maybe check the availability of everyone here. i can play my rounds mostly within a maximum of 3 hours between 08 and 24 GMT (sometimes earlier, sometimes longer) for the next 4 months...

I'm fine with random (water%, but not map size).

I don't like the ability to call a civ on restart, prefering to keep it simple and restart with a clean slate...

if this is too oddball, just ignore it

could we edit in 4 settlers and four workers at the start instead of one of each? That would help us get by the sluggish start problem, and, frankly, i don't see the downside?

Hmm, I'm not sure, I actually enjoy the start of the game a lot.

Plus won't giving extra Settlers to everyone make the game less interesting in the beginning? You no longer have to make a decision between REX and units because it's obvious you will need units.

Since this is a friendly game, not a tournament, I think we can be more flexible. If somebody likes the civ they got in the first start, lets go ahead and let them keep it. We're here to have fun after all.

So it looks like there is nobody interested in slot B. Unless you guys know anyone in Europe who would be a good fit, let's start with five players. Andy can then party every weekday and still make his slot!

Who wants to start it up?

                  Daily bump!

Unless somebody wants to set this game up during their slot today, I will do it in my own next slot (in about 8 hours). But no ganging up on me if I give myself the Celts and a couple of floodplain-wheat tiles, OK?
