  • 6-player 2-a-day

OK make that 5 player 2-a-day.

    This game is now closed

The idea is simple: play your turns every day in your 2-hour slot, both AM and PM.

    Here are the slots:
    • Slot A : 7-9 BST (12-2 EDT) : Andydog (andy AT londonhome DOT f2s DOT com)
    • Slot B : 9-11 BST (2-4 EDT) : Andy's apres-party slot.
    • Slot C : 11-1 BST (4-6 EDT) : sabrewolf (sabrewolf AT blackhole DOT ch)
    • Slot D : 1-3 BST (6-8 EDT) : jshelr (jshelruss AT yahoo DOT com)
    • Slot E : 3-5 BST (8-10 EDT) : alexman (alexman AT alum DOT mit DOT edu)
    • Slot F : 5-7 BST (10-12 EDT) : Rommel2D (jwala AT fastmail DOT fm)

    (BST = British Summer Time = GMT+1)

Please do not sign up if you don't intend to regularly play both of your turns in your slots on weekdays. Weekends are more flexible - we will play turns if possible, but we are not required to stick to our slots.

Small random map, random civs, all Iron PBEM etiquette and rules (including optional).

    Any takers?

I see Alexman's slotted me right before him. That should work well.

Are we going random landmass also? I'd be worried that an archipelago map would favor any seafaring tribes too much. [Too bad we don't have an AU MP mod yet...]

          all random seems fair...

we could apply the AU mod changes... most things are made to improve the AI, but some things also influence humans (like unit costs, bombard power, government changes, etc)

Since the civs are random, I don't think it's any more unfair to have a chance of playing on an archipelago map than it is to include agricultural civs on any map, for example.

The only reason to choose the landmass type is so that we don't have one player isolated all alone on an island until the middle ages. That would make it boring for him. Personally, I like random maps though.

As for the AU mod, let's see who takes the last two spots. Not everyone is familiar with it.

I remember an old strat forum PBEM AAR where Dom blamed the isolation of two tribes on a continent for making the game boring. This could be more severe with a 4/2 division, but I think it would be playable if everyone remains adaptive with their strategies.

Including me. I tried it for the first time yesterday and lost a Curragh trying to cut across a small bay in 503.

I'm interested in Slot A guys.

The timing suits me and I can play regularly, but sometimes I do go out during the week - it will only mean that I may occassionally play my turn a bit later. Is that okay?

I'd like to join. Unfortunately being in the land of Oz (GMT +8), the only slot that would be practical for me is D. If any of you are flexible, then you can put me down. Otherwise, have a great game!

If nobody takes slot B, should we start with 5 players?
The fewer the players, the greater the chance to get more than 2 turns per day now and then...

Also, for the 5 of us already signed up, please state whether you prefer a random landmass or a pangaea. We'll go with the majority's preference.

Simply because we've played pangea so often, maybe random will add a bit of spice. 1 for random.

I'll go random. Are we able to call for a re-start on the first turn should your start postion be especially shoddy?

OK, I'll go with random as well to settle the issue with 4 votes.

You can ask for a restart even after your second turn, but keep in mind that this would re-assign civilizations too.

hm... what is, if A calls for a restart and B liked his civ... can B reclaim that civ so the restart doesn't have to be too disadvantageous?

it would be fair towards the people not asking for a restart...
