battle report: complete army of vilcabamba wiped out with my 4 knights-armies
no, not really... just waiting for a culture flip, that would solve many unit-issues

    off to the mounted warrior...

          • No battle report. No war declaration. All quiet on the Southern Front. Peace continues to reign on our continent. Yes, that continent with the unfair resource distribution (rather like the other one too!)

              • yep, i couldn't help to notice that gunpowder is scarce in some places... but aqua: you really can't expect much in the small chinese lands.

anyway, some action on this continent too:
due to massive barbarian (also known as incas) uprising in the city of vilcabamba, sumeria committed mass upgrades of their horsemen and pikemen (long live leo!) and have started a preventative strike against the spices-thieves.

RNG was fair, letting the one with the better odds mostly win (which is... often in favour of the 6 attack instead of the 4.25 defence):

                detailed battle report

                against city huanuco pampa:
cannon bombards fort vet pike: 1HP damage
vet cavalry vs. vet pike (longbow free shot): wins, 2HP loss
vet cavalry vs. vet knight: wins, 3HP loss
vet cavalry vs. vet 3HP pike: wins, 2HP loss
reg musket vs. reg medinf: loses, no damage
reg musket vs. reg medinf: loses, 1HP damage (medinf promotes)
vet musket vs. vet 3HP medinf: wins, 2HP loss
reg musket vs. reg longbow: wins, 2HP loss
                ==> huanuco pampa captured

                against city vilcabamba:
                vet musket captures 2 workers
vet cavalry vs. fort vet pike (longbow free shot): loses (retreat), 1 damage
vet cavalry vs. fort vet pike: wins, 2HP loss
vet cavalry vs. vet pike: wins, 3HP loss
vet cavalry vs. vet knight: wins, 2HP loss
vet cavalry vs. vet knight: wins, 2HP loss (promotes)

                - no cavalry lost
                - no victory with 0 or only 1 HP loss
                - 1 single promotion in 9 won battles in thin

                  • The seige on Salemenca has ended because of the brave Horse-Riders and Pointy-Wielders. The Celtic raider's defenses are wearing very thin indeed, while the mighty pikemen of Alleghenny stand stout and strong.

                    • Alas, the Sabrewolf has yet again displayed his treachery, with a pledge of peaceful building being offered from his lips only a handful of turns ago. Yes, the backstabbing has commenced.

The mighty has finally shown his power, as I knew he would. My meagre defences, which represented my entire army, were no match for his Cavalry. His army stands on my Iron resource, about to pillage my only key resource, making both my civs Ironless and Saltpeterless.

With no army remaining after Sumeria takes Vilcabamba next turn and my workers about to be captured, the game is essentially over for me and Sumerian Cavalry will surge through my lands taking one undefended city after another.

Do as you will Sabrewolf. Inca has nothing to counter your Cavalry.

No battle report, since there is little point attacking Musketmen sitting on a hill.

And just to set the record straight against your charge of thievery, we agreed that you could enter my territory and connect the extra spice with your workers, which you did. I didn't object even to your defender standing inside my territory throughout the process.

As soon as the spice was connected, I gifted it directly to the Netherlands with no compensation in return, as agreed.

You have now bombarded and disconnected the spice, yet my other spice resource is still being provided to your Netherlands, as I have not declared war on them.

So, pray tell, what was stolen from whom?

Yes, another example of the despotic Sabrewolf's treachery.

you're right on some issue, but not on backstabbing and treachery.

                            concerning the "stolen" spices:
you placed that city purposely that i didn't get 2 spices. i accepted at the terms that netherlands get spices. i didn't try out-culture that, nor the iron source.

connecting the spices was a mistake on my side. with that, you had a 2 move access to 2 of my major cities and i just don't have enough defences to effectively protect both. the bombarding of that tile was done so i can leave my cities less protected and they wouldn't fall to a counterattack. so it was a tactical move. the road was the target, not the spices.

that you're still giving spices to the dutch instead of declaring war isn't my mistake, you can't blame me there! but to take all wind out of your sails... i've let netherlands declare war too, so you've now in fact got double war happiness effect.

                            and treachery?
i never said i would NOT attack. i just called it unlikely. i was going peaceful builder (after all, i'm in republic) for a very long time and only when i took a peek in vilcabamba, did i see the urge of building a mighty army. had you attacked 4 turns before - i would have been hopelessly lost, for my cavalry were still horsemen and my musketmen were spread thinly.

so please, don't call me a treacherous despot... it's was just a preventative strike...

battle report in the email to you.

ok, it indeed looks a bit contradictary

but from what i've heard, 4 civs had secretly allied and want to see me dead... so just 1 city won't do. the incan people will survive.. as part of a greater sumeria
