  • Plus, a player can 'agree' to attack but end up never moving a unit...

    • Hmm, true. Although i'd counterargue to Rommel that the AI does that all the time, *with* an alliance.

Perhaps I'd suggest that until one party declares war, any agreement is 'under the table', but once one party declares war, both must do so, if there is an agreement to attack? 99% of the time this would be moot, but this would keep people from pulling off "surprise" attacks.

Unless you're supposed to be able to pull off surprise attacks like that (ie one person attacking, and then the other person waiting until the right time and positioning forces and whatnot at peace, and then attacking, all the while the first person knowing it will happen), in which case this would be stupid. I'm really quite unsure on the ethics of that.

      • Heya, don't know if any uninvolved parties are watching this thread, but ICR2 was just getting back into the swing of things when Krill's computer took a headfirst dive into the ground (not literally fortunately, as far as i know), meaning that we need a fill-in at least for now (probably 2-4 weeks) in ICR2. It's an average position as far as i know, we're just starting to make contact, no war or anything at the present.

Head on over to our thread for details ...

        Thanks!!!

        • ^ and i suspect that rommel wouldn't object if one of the dead players would like to participate on krill's behalf as long as they don't take the slot if they win ... ^

(please correct me if i'm wrong ...

          • Back on the alliance discussion.

I believe that there is a moral obligation to inform an attacked civ that discussions about coordinated timing of an attack have taken place if the initial attacking civ has been promised by others that they too will attack.

In other words, you should be able to tell a civ that you plan to attack someone else in 3 turns without triggering a need to inform the enemy civ.

You cannot, IMO, ask another civ to promise to also attack without publishing an alliance on the first turn that an actual attack by any participating civ takes place.

No coordination of ground troops is needed for an alliance. And, some alliances might turn out to be fakes, as Rommel suggests -- but it is immoral for both civs in an alliance to know ahead of time that it is fake.

If you need to know what the definition of a promise is, Bill Clinton is free to provide the answer.

As far as I am concerned, everyone should go overboard in the direction of admitting an alliance exists when grey areas appear.

                • I should also point out that Coliseum D turned out 6 full turns over the weekend. They might be passing up the napping hares of Coliseum A any day now...

                            • i'm quite fast, but even fast is not immediate... so 4-1 is always faster than 4
and with andydog's average turn pace of 2 mins (download, play, save, send, post), it's even faster

also, in the beginning our group had trouble finding days for rapid fire sessions - that has obviously improved.
