    Are there too many previews?

    OK,
lately we've seen previews from right and left, and still there appears new ones.
(Armchair, GD, about.com, stratos group, bonuswer PC.ign, Gamespot, Strategy player, Gamespy, and the list goes on and on. Oh, E3 was there also)

    So, now I wonder.
Why does FIRAXIS seek this much publicity for a game that is to be released in 2002, yet? How many previews do you think the PC-game magazines are willing to do about Civ3? Not so many, I would guess.

So now I am worried, could the answer to this hype be that the info about Q32001 release is correct? At least it would make much more sence to me then that FIRAXIS is now seeking maximum publicity.

I hope this publicity-wave ia a way to boost applications for beta-tester position.

    Opinions? I'm I crazy?

(One possibility is that everybody just want's to have a preview of the legendary Civilization sequal )

I'm playing bad, answering your question, but I'm in evil mode now...

Out of some fan forum, TBS as CIV III aren't receiving lot of attention: look at E3 awards, where Firaxis left with empty hand...

WHAT'S HAPPENING? The most awaited sequel (from our fanatics point of view, of course ) is dismissed as a minor sequel, a cash cow enhanced but not revolutionary, not anything able to push the limits of modern computer game, not a X-Box launch game...

Now their marketing is gaining its money using a classical Microsoft tactic: start speaking of a great product before it's ready to really show its features

Dan Magaha tell us for colonies: almost nothing is set in stone, until now. Preview of Firaxis cut of economic victory (what a pity: it seems one of the fresh point of the game ) is just an example.
"We are reducing all the complexity of billions of people over 6000 years into a Civ box. Let me say: That's not only a PkZip effort....it's a real 'picture to Jpeg heavy loss in translation' kind of thing."

I am waiting for MOOIII too. I just read an info, I cannot remember where, EA plan to release the game 3 month after CIVIII will be out. I also see they plan to release MOOIII Q1 or Q2 2002. I think we will see CIVIII sometimes Q4 2001 or Q1 2002.

All I can think, every time I read a preview, is how much I'd like to be working for a gamer site, and so have a chance to get my grubby little hands on the currently playable version. I only heard about the anticipated release of CivIII in March 2001, and I am appropriately grateful for my late notification. If I'd heard about it in 1999 like some of you, Sid might be tied up in my house right now, programming to save his life.
