the best age is the Modern one! Tanks, stealth Bombers, carriers, nukes, Marines, bunkerz, awesome music, large empires, friends and enemies, diplomacy and prolonged wars........It really pays off for all the hours one spend forging his nation!

I voted Ancient, but it was a pretty close call and I could easily have picked middle ages.
From the industrial age onwards I just start getting bored and am eager to start a new game.
If I'm posting here then Counterglow must be down.

Three simple events: railroads, factories and modern warfare (tanks & planes).

Maybe it would be the modern age, but most times, the game is already over then. I haven't tried deity yet, but pumping out tanks with fully improved terrain and cities and then roll over your technological inferior neighbours is the way to go.

          Edit:
My favourite age is the Golden Age.

I love the modern age... too bad it's BY FAR the shortest age in stock Civ3... which is my largest gripe with Civ3 as a game... the modern age goes by way too quickly as it's really just a race to who can win the game first... you never really get the time to *enjoy* playing in the modern age unless you play beyond the end of the game.

It always seems like I've discovered nuclear fission one turn and the game is over within 10-20 turns if by UN and only a little bit longer if by culture or space race.

Got to agree the modern age is my least favourite. By that time you have realized that you have done the groundwork for winning the game (or you have been obliterated) and the rest is just playing ny the numbers.
My favourite age would really have to be the iron age without iron. Or the gun age without saltpeter. Absolute favourite would be the gun age without iron or sp.

Eay way to make the modern age fun: give away tech all through the game OR move up a difficulty level.

Industrial; I prefer not to go to war before the industrial age because it's too slow. (unless I'm playing as the Persians and I have a alot of immortals)

                        All Middle, Early Industrial.

After early industrial, you either won or you lost. the entire game begins to fall apart at that time...

Ancient age. Discovery, surprises, first contacts, the joy of building your first galley, the sound of primitive drums and the novelty of all.
I watched you fall. I think I pushed.

                            "knights are cool"
that's very true, but they're sooooo expensive!! i guess because they're the first units in the game that really rock.

i really like the middle ages too. but my favorite music is the catchy, lilting little harpsichord ditty that comes in the industrial (i think) era. i can't explain it any better than that...
drones to the left of me, spartans to the right - here i am, stuck in the middle with yang

I agree. The harpsichord song is marvelous.
