          Industrial.
However, if I would ever get around to getting the SS into the 'Future Tech' era (or just turn OFF the spaceship win condition), it would probably be the Modern Era.

I modded the SS to be later for last game, but even so it was too soon. Next game it will also be more expensive (up to 1,000 shields for many of the parts). At least with the U.N. you can build it and not have the vote, disabling others from getting that victory.

Modern - because watching a Barbarian Horde beat themselves to death against the hulls of my Modern Armor cracks me up!

Industrial is my favorite age. I love the units (Rifleman, Infantry, Panzer), and it seems that the decisive actions of the game always take place during this period.

It is our true policy to steer clear of permanent alliances with any portion of the foreign world, so far as we are now at liberty to do it." George Washington- September 19, 1796

Industrial age is my favorite also, because of the units and techs.

However, I could argue the part about decisive actions usually happening in the Industrial age. I've had games that were pretty much won in the mid-late Miiddle ages.

                  Industrial Age!

Artillery is a very dangerous weapon.

Ancient because its less units to move about all the time and its always more exciting starting out.

                      Late Industrial to Early Modern.

Warmongering just gets more fun when tanks become available. Especially when playing as Germany and Panzers are available. A golden age here helps to conquer the whole world overnight.

Ancient. Less unit and more exploring to be done. I like the "what is on the other side of the mountain" feel.

I enjoy the idea of fighting with formations of cavalry (horsemen) backed up by a phalanx of spearmen. In fact I would prefer a game that took place entirely in the pre gunpowder era (a mod I have contemplated). The early expansion is also a lot of fun and the game is still in doubt.

That being said, I agree that most of the important decisions (read as "conquests") occur during the Industrial age. That's when I usually set up a win using artillery, infantry and tanks.

for me it has to be industrial as playing on emperor I have the following age "experiences"...

ancient is too dull, it's very samey for every game - having to expand as quickly as possible in order to survive doesn't leave much chance to experiment. by the time i get to really let fly militarily this age is over and all wonders are already built by the AI.

middle age is a period of survival where i spend all the time trying to rein back my hideous tech level deficiency whilst simultaneously trying to expand my armed forces and empire through border skirmishes with nearby AIs. this is good fun as you are walking a fine line between expansion of the empire and extinction thereof. still 2nd in fun quotient to industrial tho'

industrial age is when I finally get to crack some AI heads and have some real fun. some good units and finally getting to remove that annoying AI thats bothered me since turn one, with some juicy tank assaults can't be beaten.

modern age is just micromanagement-tastic, by this point I control most of the known world and have to bother myself with looking after several hundred units per turn. nothing worthwhile left to research and just have to mop up all remaining resistance. *yawn*

i have to go with industrial because of the interesting research paths and advent of factories!! and then i also like early modern because of ecology and recycling.
