For me, the historical and geographical accuracy of my game play is very important. I simply wouldn't enjoy playing on a random map. That is one of the reasons why I loathed Call to Power:

coudn't agree with you more.. CivIII neeeds detailed/accurate earth map.

      My favourite civs(favoured location)

      Aztec
      Greek
      Chinese
      Zulu
      American
      Indian

Sometimes I have played as Yorkshire as a nation. Town names like 'Heckmondwike' and 'Cleckheaton' look so silly they have to be used in this tribe...

Yes, nice names...the Ukrainian Football civ has such beauties as Kryvbas Kryvyj Rih, Dnipro Dnipropetrovsk, Prykarpattya Ivano-Frankivsk, Vorskla Poltava, Chornomorets Odessa (where Oleksandr Holokolosov plays), Zirka Kirovohrad, Zakarpattya Uzhhorod, Systema-Boreks Borodyanka and Polyhraftekhnika Oleksandriya. Other football clubs that are nice as city names:
Total Network Solutions Llantsantffraid FC (Wales), Akranes from Iceland and Ekranas from Lithuania (or was it the other way around?), Dnyepr-Transmash Mogilyov from Belarus, Chernomorets Novorossiysk and Tom' Tomsk from Russia, Panathinaikos, Paniliakos Pirgos and Panionios from Greece, Dukla Banska Bystrica from Slovakia, Antibiotik from Bulgaria, Haka Valkeakoski (sp?) from Finland, Sloga Jugomagnat Skopje and of course Skopje Skopje from Macedonia, and lots of others I can't think of at the moment.

Try it, it's a completely new city-naming experience!!!

Edit: it's a shame most of them are longer than 15 letters though. Abbreviate Creatively.

I take it from that you are Ukrainian. Which area are you from?

Amstelveen, Noord-Holland, The Netherlands. I'm not Ukrainian, just very interested in Ukrainian football (don't ask why).

Apart from favourite civ's, I also have some favourite civ-groupings that I like.
I love playing with seven classic civs (Carthage, Rome, Greece, Egypt, etc.), or seven European ones (France, England, Russia, etc.). Or a modern, global one (USA, Japan, China, India, Germany, etc.) I'll even change the rules.txt to get a nice combination.

              COOL!!! I did that too!

I like generally the classic civs.

              I usually play with:

              1. Romans 75% of the time
              2. Germans 17% of the time
              3. Greeks 8% of the time

(yeah I know I'm bored cause I calculate percentages )

I don't like many Islands since I gereally dislike sea warfare because at king level and higher the computer usually rules the sea and always wins in conditions where I would lose.

I also dislike long and wierd land stripes where one civ blocks me from getting to other civs. I like big continents. I shoudl have the biggest one for my self and have some civs contact me.

I like to play as relatively exotic, non-conventional tribes, usually the Carthagians or the Mongols.

btw, Tiberius, which transylvanian ethnic group do you belong to?

I usually play with the world map and everyone starting on Eurasia (and sometimes the zulus). This generally solves the problems of a huge, hard to kill civilization on the American landmass which would never have developed in real life.

You mean DID not develop: let's say mesoamerican culture lasted from 600BC to 1500AD: that's 2000 years, that's the time Babylonia needed to evolve from the sumerian to persian period.
"Would have never developed" is an ignorant statement.

How many people here like random maps? And what type of randomness (is that a word)? I just let the computer do the stats for me in civ2, but in SMAC I liked lots of rain, lots of rocks, and lots of fungus (and TI of course).

                      What about you all?

BTW: I'm back from a vacation. School starts in 21 hours 03 minutes 32 seconds
