Since I'm still playing my first game with 1.29f as the Chinese I'm not sure what I'd name units from other civs yet.
Here's what I have named my elite units that have produced GL so far:
Elite Swordsman = renamed "Cao Cao"
Elite Swordsman = renamed "Lu Bu"
Elite Rider = renamed "Cao Ren"
If anyone is familiar with the "Romance of the Three Kingdom" series from Koei than you will see how appropriate these names are!

I name them after the nearest city... if it's a non-upgradeable unit, then for instance, the "Paris Cavalry."
