  • Quick Question

I lost my instructions. Can somebody tell me what exactly rate of fire is? Thanks.

It is the number of "attacks" a bombard unit makes per turn. "Attacks" as I am using it means discrete, 1 HP battles, the end of which will result in a lost HP to the unit being bombarded or a failed bombardment.

Artillery, with a RoF of "2" and an bombard value of "12" functions like an attacker with an attack value of 12 and the chance to attack up to 2 hit points in one turn. That's why when attacking infantry with artillery, you will sometimes fail to do any damage, sometimes knock 1 HP off, and sometimes knock 2 HPs off (but will never knock 3 HPs off).

Thanks, but then what advantage do stelth fighters have over bombers, it seems they're better in every way?

Speaking of which, whats the rate of fire for a Cruise Missle, I thought it was 2 but last night when I used one on a troop, it did 3 HP dmg. It took off a green health, yellow, and instead of leaving it in red, the unit died.

It's certainly debatable whether or not stealth fighters have any overall advantage over bombers. Bombers do more damage (higher bombard and higher RoF). The only advantage to stealth fighters ("SF") that springs to mind is that bombers have a 50% chance of being intercepted by patrolling fighters on air superiority, while SFs have a 5% chance of being intercepted. Big downside though too that is often overlooked -- SFs and SBs are not destroyed on capture (assuming the requisite tech) - so should you actually lose a frontier city where you've based SFs or SBs, not only do you lose the units, but the AI gets the units intact.

The cruise missle has a RoF of 3. It is also able to destroy units (i.e., lethal bombard) without any modifications in the editor.

Omg sweet, Cruise Missles are even better than I thought... I thought the only unit they were able to destroy were ships.

            Awesome.

Cruise missiles actually aren't that bad... the range is too short, but I find that isn't a problem when AI uberstacks come into your territory pillaging everything in sight. They work excellently of your railroad network, and with your cities mass producing them on a military economy you can turn those stacks into ground meat in a few turns.
