Sorry if this is a dumb question, but how do you create units?
"The first man who, having fenced off a plot of land, thought of saying, 'This is mine' and found people simple enough to believe him was the real founder of civil society. How many crimes, wars, murders, how many miseries and horrors might the human race had been spared by the one who, upon pulling up the stakes or filling in the ditch, had shouted to his fellow men: 'Beware of listening to this imposter; you are lost if you forget the fruits of the earth belong to all and that the earth belongs to no one." - Jean-Jacques Rousseau

No, it's not a dumb question. None of us knew how to do it at one point.

The first thing you do is grab a copy of the Civ3MultiTool over in the files area. Make sure you get the latest version, Gramphos is always making changes. While you're at it, get the hacked Civ3Edit program. It has Add/Delete buttons so you can remove a unit later, if you decide you don't like it.

Then go to the Creation area and read the tutorial by Plutarck, at the very top of the page. It's a hefty read, but it should tell you everything you need to know about adding anything in the game. If not, just hang out in the Creation forum and ask questions. There'll always be somebody there who'll try to answer them for you.

Did they fix the bug with the shift key that allowed the targeting of any square by artillery? I used it a few times to see what the AI would do.
We need seperate human-only games for MP/PBEM that dont include the over-simplifications required to have a good AI

Yes, they got rid of that in the last patch or two. You can pretty much count on Soren to plug any looholes that turn up.

Just to ilustrate this tread and eliminate the confusion between the big bertha and the supergun of WWI.
By the pictures you can see which one is the supergun

I think that rail guns wouldn't be a very good idea. From what I noiced, in the wars I have, city improvements get totally taken out or reduced to nearly nothing by either me or the AI. If the rail guns would be very expensive, than it would next to impossible to build one in a captured city, where the action is, and to expensive to buy one. So even if you build it far from the action, it will pretty hard to transport it into action where it can be useful. Another scenario, is in a fast attack war. In this type of war not many city improvements are damaged but the gun just won't keep up with the faster moving attackers.

The whole idea of a rail or super gun in the game would be a waste. If you want a terror weapon to use on a city just bomb it. Second to those who want a self propelled Artillery unit give Radar artillery a movement unit of two. Third a mobile anti air craft unit is neccisary along with aegis cruisers that actually protect against air attack, add these and make air power stronger so that if you screw up and don't defend against air it will actually be a decisive factor.
And finally no super gun or rail gun has ever ben a truelly important factor in wartime. In WW I yes the Germans took out some Belgian Forts and Bombed Paris. The whole Idea of a fort was out dated and Paris being bombed was not a factor at all. In WW II Londons only reall terror weapon was the Buzz bomb (V-1) becuase people could here and see it, after which was replaced by the V-2 rocket which could not be shot down like the V-1. Niether were very effective in the scheme of the war.

                    hi ,

a railroad gun would be nice , with a range of lets say 14 , can only move on on railroads , and takes one turn for one square , ....further more it would become obsolete with lets say advanced flight , and it would cost a huge fortune , .......
