It happens to me too. When I try to start a new game it asks for the civ III cd that is already in the cd-rom drive!!! I have tried both my cd roms, everything... doesn't work.
uh the same happened with 1.171f...
        anyone s got a solution?

I ve checked civfanatics...and found that post. it's not a fix. ...anyone got a solution to this one?

        by the way...I use win98...

here is a post at CivFanatics...

          xxxx

Attention: This fix requires forethought and a general clue.

In the registry, their is a CD_Path key. If you don't put the CD in that drive, or don't have a CD at that drive letter, the program bombs.

Note: It is 2002 - get with it guys, people add drives and stuff on occassion - I have yet to have another program fail on me because I run the CD from a different drive letter than where it was installed from...

          xxxx

how do I fix the bug? which registry?
I AM running it from the same drive!

I have just installed the latest patch and started a new game.
First town I build on grassland (no rivers or bonuses) produces a
city tile with 3 commerce. Eh ?? It used to be 1 if I remember correctly. Is this a bug ???

Do I have to uninstall the game, re-install it and then install the latest patch ????

Sounds like I have to remove my 1GB Compactflash chip to play Civ III. Or could I copy the entire CD to the chip. It would decrease access time.

uh yes I tried to start it from the cd...it goes 'loading' then gives a missing bwink32.dll ...a file that i wasn't able to find anywhere...

but this dll missing...made me think of a incompatibility with windows 98 (NOT SE)

You should consider updating to Win98SE. It solves a lot of issues in Win98.

I've never seen it. I use SE though. I have had problems on Windows 95 and NT4. And it won't work on windows 3.1 .

                            I don't know about bwink32.dll but I know there is a binkw32.dll
In fact I seem to have four copies of the thing on my system, Civ3, Black&White, Star Trek Bridge Commander all have their own copy. Bink is the movie format I think. The dll file is on the CD under the "bink\W2K" directory.

RAD Game Tools you can download the movie viewer / maker thingee but as far as I can tell the dll file isn't there. Maybe rename the .bik movie files so it doesn't try to play them or get the dll file from somewhere and put it in the Civ3 directory? Haven't had teh problem before so just a guess.
