  • Does Civ3 _feel_ like Civ2 to you? (4 options.)

I'm curious about how people will vote.

I'm not sure how to express it... just don't be nitpicky about the number of techs, or the inclusion of strategic resources or culture. I want to know about the overall "feel" of the game for you.

Civ3 is a different game. It lacks the exploits of Civ2 but also has a certain pain factor. I think I should play Civ2 again for a fair comparison. Overall I like Civ3 but I wouldn't call it better than Civ2.

No, both are different games for me, and yes, I like Civ3, but I like Civ2 as well. Civ3 is harder to play and not yet so rich of options, and despite the fact that Civ2 knows more techs, strategic resources and culture makes Civ3 more complex. Civ2 is more fun to play, but much more exploitable. So if I want a challenge, I rather choose Civ3, if I prefer to relax and have fun, I take Civ2.

I think if I had started playing the Civ series with Civ3 it would feel very much the same as Civ1 and 2 did. After playing Civ 1 and 2, Colonization, and SMAC, Civ3 is somewhat less addictive. It is still an enjoyable game though.

Well I'm at the opinion that Civ3 tops Civ2 on a lot of fronts.
Though not revolutionary different, the differences in the game are for the better.

For me Civ3 is better than any previously civ game. It contains the best things from Civ1 and Civ2, while it has depth than never before.

I couldn't even dream about going back to Civ2 again!!!
This space is empty... or is it?

                I like Civ3 more than Civ2, although I haven't played Civ2 a lot.
I loved Civ1 but was slightly dissapointed with Civ2. But Civ3 is a great improvement over Civ 2 IMO

no it doesn't feel like civ3. the graphics, trade and espionage systems, and culture give it a different feel. and i don't like it. not because of the alterations per se, but more because it lacks MP (and to a lesser extent scenarios). if SP civ was still fun and interesting for me then, yeah, i probably would enjoy civ3, despite its shortcomings.

Voted #2. I like Civ3, but I don´t play it as much as I played Civ2 when it came out. I still play Civ2 today, mainly scenarios, I hope for MP and better scenario support for Civ3 too...

I voted #4 but I need to clarify... I don't not like Civ3, but at the same time I don't really like it either. It's not Civ2 because the graphics are much nicer, culture and trade are cool (but could have been made much better that they are currently), and the AI is GREATLY improved.

The reason I don't like the game (and it took me a while to realize what it was exactly) has two parts. One - the single player game has a terrible lack of options and strategies to pursue. It's pretty much the same every time. This could have been rectified by including multiplayer (no multi is part 2) but alas. Methinks Firaxis sure as hell better get Brian back if they are going to make a SMAC 2.

I like the "feel" of CIV3 compared to CIV2. I like the game concepts of culture and strategic resources and the move away from CIV as a fun but poor wargame. Given that I started to mod CIV3 way before I even thought of it for CIV2, I'd have to say that I like CIV2 (out of the box) better than CIV3.
We need seperate human-only games for MP/PBEM that dont include the over-simplifications required to have a good AI

Personally, to me Civ3 feels a bit towards Aok than "pure" Civ ....... I just want a more polished Civ2 with a better AI

I'm actually still trying to figure out what they changed from Civ2. I think it was a much better game... and I have yet to see anything that truly sets Civ3 apart from the aforementioned...
The culture is good, the combat is different... but it still has the same problems as the last few.
                            For example:
I played on the world map scenario. I founded Washington DC where it should be.. and San Fransico where it should be.
San Fran can't produce anything due to corruption... why?

voted #2, the only thing I really hate in civ3 is the corruption. Even if my government is democracy, my cities have courthouse + policestation and there´s everywhere "we love the president day" - cities in distance from the capital or forbidden palace are nearly useless for production.
Has anyone tried to conquer the whole world on a huge map at higher levels and succeeded without changing the ci3mod-file?
