  • What game should Civ3 have been?

I find myself supporting Civ3 more often than I'd like to. I've realized it's because so many of the criticisms of Civ3 that I see are, IMO, more of along the lines of "Civ3 isn't the way I'd like it to be." rather than "This would be bad in any game."

So, what game should Civ3 have been. I'm curious to see if there's any consensus here.

I wish they´d tried to make SMAC 2 instead of this. But with Brian missing I suppose they´d **** up that to...

However I DID re-install Civ 3 with the arrival of 1.17f, but I haven´t played it enough to really feel if it´s worth devoting time to in the future.

Civ3 should be called Genocide 3.

Best way to win on deity: Build a few cities, build a huge army, conquer civ no1., get all their tech. Then after that conquer civs one by one razing most of their large cities and replacing them with your own. Not very civilized, I'd say.

None of the poll options: Civ3 should be Civ3 as it is now

oh come now ADG, its what we think it shuld have been, no game is ever perfect, so when you can choose what you want it to be do so, so if you wanted a general orgy game from ancient pompeii, then say it god damn it!

OK, got you. It´s ironic that Sid always complained that people played the game as a wargame and still that´s the most viable strategy

                    My vote: CIV3 + SMAC/X
I think Civ3 is a new game in it's own right though, it has some ground-breaking new features.

Perhaps you should try a more interesting strategy of building a better civ, not necessarily a bigger one.

Conquering is easy, ruling is hard.

DrFell, you make it sound so easy. I'd really like to see your deity save game, could you post it as promised? You said you'd have it up Friday.

For me the game is almost perfect as it is now with the new patch, there's only a few minor bugs, but apart from that it is the game that hit the best scores ever with my ratings.

Sure I'd like the game to have faster turns on huge maps with 16 players (or even more ), but I like to keep it real

And btw, if it goes more to the Civ2, SMAC, ctp then the game get's worse and it has taken the good parts of Civ1

The only thing that might be (not saying it will be) interesting is to have some future advances.

it should have been civ3 + ctp 2 maybe + SMAC as well.

It should have been an amalgamation of all the best features from CtP(2), SMAC (maybe) and Civ2. But Firaxis decided that learning from CtP would be too intelligent.
