It would be nice if you could control these numbers in EDITOR.
    Also Corthouse logic is BORKEN.
It looks like they reduce distance factor and corruption in that way.
But if city is just to much far away, distance reduction is not enought so Corthouse doesn't help.
    P.S.
What do you people think about this idea:
    Multiple Forbidden Palaces
Every time you get additional 8 cities (on standard maps) you can opt building additional Forbidden Palace. Of course every new such "palace" should be more expensive (1st 200, 2nd 400, 3rd 600, etc...).
Of course you should be able to "move" for. palaces like "ordinary palace".
    Don't like your idea!

LOL! Here's a tip: When you want to ask somebody something 'humbly,' don't say they are whining. That advice is free for ya.

As for the rest, make a clear question and I'll answer. Are you asking how Civ3 could have have handled the number of cities and number of units better? Well, automated governors that actually work is one. Stacked movement is another. Need more? In fact, those two alone would probably have fix 80% of the problem, and would they have taken a genius to figure out?

"Hmmm, do we really want governors that keep switching to build things we tell them not to? I suppose not. And do we really want to have to move even 50 let alone 150 units one by one? I guess not."

And yet, you willingly roll over and pant for the mere chance to hold the box in your hands. This is your choice. Enjoy your flight on Apoly-Air. Next round of advice costs you.

LOL! Well, in these lean economic times, even us whiners need to put a few dollars in the bank. Of course, I'll be coming out with an Advice X-Pack around summer time. It will be full of all the great stuff I should have said about 3 months ago!

                  Yin,
I was way over the top and I apologize for that. I still don't understand your venom and I believe your knowledge of CIV3 is minimal since you are a non-player. Your knowledge on other versions of the series is proven, but since you don't actually play this game.

This is side I come from. I do not doubt your intelligence, just you motives.

BTW, governors will not switch what you are building in the middle of something else (except already built wonders) but they will make suggestions. (Which in itself is annoying to some.)

All that said, I will try my best to not to make any attacks on you personally again. Please accept my sincere apology for that.
                  Sorry....nothing to say!

jimmytrick: Awesome idea! Can you imagine it? It's a game whose time has come, I tell you! I'll gladly shop it around the developers if Vel agrees to do the strat guide:

pg. 178: "It's important to remember that what Yin says at any given time represents nothing more than a moving target. In a ironic yet brilliant twist of affairs, Yin has managed to take all that is horrid and wrong with the industry and turn it into his own secret cache of special moves, double speak, and public machinations. In a sense, the removal of Yin from the Circle of Creation represents a kind of pseudo-purifacation wish projected upon him by an entire host of industry specialists who see in him the incarnation of all they hoped they wouldn't become yet sadly are. It is this bizarre love and hate of self that drives them all in this mad dance to hunt the sacrificial lamb that at once seeks a final peace but is fueled by the very persons who want to wash in his blood.

The sooner you consider the deep psychological implications of this unholy yet utterly human dance, the easier it will be to load your S4-K rocket launchers and blow Yin to pieces with a clear conscience, having left the game a more complete soul than when you started.

                      Now get fragging!"

Vel: You up for it! LOL!

Sha_g: Wow. Honest thanks for your apology. I do understand your take on me, I think, and I know it must be entirely annoying to have a guy like me on these boards who gave up playing the game yet still feels 'qualified' to participate.

Truth be known, I still deeply hope Civ3 will, with some patches and an X-pack, prove to be an outstanding game. I often say that I have 'given up' on the game, but that's not entirely true. I've been a part of the Civ community here for a long time, and I do hope that once MP and other importance pieces are in place that I can get down to the business of beating you, Vel and jimmy like a bunch of sad little school girls!

                      *runs away*

I've given up on Yin and skip his posts.

I'm curious what ICS and OCC mean.

Oddly, I did a lot of conquest in Civ 2, at least up to a point. This game requires a new approach, so I adopted it.

                        Regards.

                          Lib.

Now I entirely understand your point of view. I am currently engaged in such a conquer-a-thon.

However, I do not think that anyone dismisses you. With your means of expression, no-one could ever dismiss you.

Firaxis maybe ignoring you now, but that too could be changed. It's up to you.

Call me weird, but I'm going to talk about the original subject of this post.

I've found conquest is a lot easier than expansion. Burn enemy towns to the ground, theres really no point at all in installing new governors unless you WANT infinite corruption. Which I don't think the patch touched at all to be honest. I was once losing 1400 gold a turn to corruption and every city I had a courthouse and police station. Thats just ridiculous. When something just can't be helped to that extreme...I don't know it makes me not want to play the game to be honest.

BUT! In a second game when I burned down every city instead of claiming them I not only advanced faster, killing the french in about 10 turns (I built up my army beforehand, and besides after they said they wanted 60 gold a turn for thier world map they had to die) but I also didn't have infinite corruption, so I was richer, smarter (more gold for science) and feared (the Americans always agreed to my ridiculous propositions).

YET....that isn't what I was looking for in a civ game...not at all. I was looking for a game where I could build a civilization....not an island. It doesn't help things that theres no easy number to change (like...oh I dunno CIV II) thats easily found in a text file that could fix this. I think if that was changed I would enjoy the game 500% more at least.

So yes, I'm dissapointed to say the least. But like yin, I hope. Unlike yin I'm still playing.
I can throw a hundred pound walrus right through the wall!

ICS. Infinite City Sprawl. The observation of Civ2 players that 2 size 1 cities were more valuable that 1 size 2 city for gold. And 4 size 1 cities more valuable than 2 size 2. etc.

This was the case because you got 1 pop to work the land and the free *pop* just for the city (all for 1 pop put into a settler). I hope I'm getting this right, since I never did it. Anyway, this led to tracts of land with cities in every other square or so. Hence Infinite City Sprawl.

IMNHO, civ3 comes nowhere close to this problem. Corruption is the check on that. However, eliminate corruption (as can effectively be done with the editor) and this comes back to some extent. Until you run into the 500 and some city limit. In other words, they fixed it both ways (to a greater and lesser extent).

As you may conclude, based on my imperfect explanation of the concept, those who drop ICS as a criticism of civ3 are obvious trolls, since ICS is clearly impossible (for 2 reasons). But hey, they aren't talkin with good intentions are they? Can hardly expect them to be honest too.

                              OCC is One City Challenge.

Simply put, win a victory (Space, Cultural, Diplomatic) with only 1 city. You cannot conquer the world (you would have to Raze every conquered city). You must beat the game like you would beat a rented mule. ie You have approached total mastery of the system.

Civ3 has given rise to a variant of OCC. That being 5CC. ie 5 City Challenge. You guessed it, you can have 5 cities.
