You really seem to have earned your title, or you're just picking a fight. This is the most straight forward poll I have ever seen. Who cares what Gamespot thinks. Vote what you think on a scale of 1-10. What could be simpler?

      wow

I gave it a well deserved 3 and boy am I shocked to see the high scores.

I attribute that to mass desertions from the forum of the more discerning gamers. Heck I gave the game away and I still have Outpost on the shelf.

      LMAO!

I slag the game pretty consistently but gave it a 7 way back when this poll was released. Still do. A score of 1 for this game is as ridiculous as a score of 10 (or 9 for that matter).

Maybe there are just a few, very vocal, detractors.
There are DOZENS of people who do not like Civ3 very much. Some are long timers like myself or Yin, some are settlers who came by because they got the game and wanted to see if others disliked what they got out of the box. They came by, made a comment or two, and left, never to be seen again. More than just a few, very vocal, people. They may not rail against it as others, if you created a poll that asked, "Overall, are you disappointed at the product Civ3 turned out to be?" you'll get an overwhelming number of people to affirm that sentiment. After so much time, they should have done so much better.

          I gave it a big 5

I think Im being generous considering I only played it for 3 weeks before shelving it. I sure hope I hear about it when Firaxis decides to FINISH the game so that I might give it another try.

The thread starter did not give us any idea of what we are rating. I mean is it civ3 comapred to civ2? Is civ3 compared to any pc game I ever played? Compared to expectations is silly as nothing has much of a chance to met those and whose expectations anyway? I would saay it is a better game than civ2 and has better staying power as civ2 was far too easy.

Rate it. Not compared to one other title, but all other titles, or none.

                How do you like it?

Is it perfect, is it a 10?
Is it horribly aweful, is it a 1?
                Is it so-so, is it a 5?

How do YOU rate it? How does it satisfy YOU?

                Sorry to shout.

I have given Civ3 solid 8 out of 10. Still lots of things to precise or fine-tune, but overall, the game is really great IMO and will stay installed on my drive probably forever... errr, I mean until Civ4 comes out...

I give it a 9 because the AI is better compared to CIV I and CIV II.

Bad starting location on emperor level or higher, now way you can beat the thing.

Oh, a resurrected thread. Now, when I reread it, I found out that old Libertarian had posted some questions about why I think the game is fun.

Well, I'd have to say that I still think that Civ3 is a fun game. But it has its share of problems too, and this only becomes evident when you play the game for a longer time...

Anyway, the game is still fun, as I said, and I like the culture aspect, the unique units, the strat resources, the new combat system (yes, I do!). All in all, though, it is not a classic in the sense that Civ2 was. If I could vote again, I'd change my vote and would give it an 8 -- I gave it a 9 before.
I watched you fall. I think I pushed.

                        Patched up to 1.29, I think I'll give it a 9.

a 9 sounds good to me too ,

                            I gave it a 9. I hesitated though between 8 and 9.

The perfect game does not exist, but Civ III is a great game. All our critics have only one goal : improve the game again and again.

Ok, I will go for 9. No 10's are likely to be found. This is as good of a game as I would expect to find. Others have been as good, such as Moo and a few others. I could list a few RTS, but they are not so playble after you stop playing them. I could list a few RPG types, but you can not play them as often, you can come back to them after a long layoff.
