    8 pre-patch

    Pre-patch I'd give it a 7.

Now that the editor was opened by the patch I'd give it a 9.
The editor is very useful for making the game you want to play.

With the editor open, I've modified the hit points of combat units substantially, put the combat defensive bonuses back to Civ II levels, and made the pop-rush less attractive. Now I have a game that is still much more than Civ II, but benefits my "civilized-perfectionist" strategy that I like, and which I found very difficult to use in the game as it was published.

I gave it a modest '6'. Not horrible, but CtP2-modded would be an 8. Civ3-modded would be probably a 9, if....well....you could actually mod it apart from:

"Looky! My Tanks Now have 9999 attack!" or

"Looky! I can play against Bill Clinton..err, nevermind that he looks like Abe Lincoln."

the problem with this poll, is that there are alot of people who are extremely dissapointed, because they expected a 10, and civ is probably around a 7 for most peole (IMO) but there disapointed so they give it a 1, just because they are angry at firaxis. then some people will try and counter that by giving it 10's, even if its only about a 7-8 to them, etc. so this poll might end up becoming alot of 10's and 1's. hopefully it wont though

i thought it was a 4, because of late game tedium, planes vs ships, combat, and the AI's inability to defend itself (they defend there settlers better than their metros sometimes )
The Civ3 world is one where stealth bombers are unable to sink galleons, Man-O-Wars are a powerful counter to battleships, and knights always come equipped with the AT-S2 Anti-Tank Sword.

The Simwiz2 Combat Mod Version 2.0 is available for download! See the changes here. You can download it from the CivFanatics Thread or the Apolyton Thread.

War is one of the most exciting part of CivIII and now they are loaded with frustrating problems.
            Gameplay still nice
Unreasonable AI that makes me soo mad that i even declare war at e'm who makes stupid demand
            No MP reallly bad
The technology was about the same with Civ2,they dont really restructre the whole technology system, this proves that they are sooo lazzzyyyy

I would give it a 6!If not for the civ style gameplay i would give it 0!Actually they really should not call it civ 3 but instead civ2.25
because it is a quarter ass job

OK, I know there are more than 91 people around to vote on this poll. In order to get a good overall apolyton impression, as many people as possible must vote!

Through 91 votes the average score has dropped to a 7.15

You have to realise that the average you're getting can be considered as "our" review of the game. We all know Civ 3 got 98% or so from gaming reviewers, but there were some pretty negative too.
And Apolytoners are just saying in this poll what's their review of the game!

So an average of 7 should really make Firaxis to think about what hard-core fans are thinking about the game. I see grades of 2 and 3 and, despite finding them unfair and insulting, they're nevertheless legitimate.

I gave it a 7, btw. Pre-patch version. I don't use the editor, so I don't think it's fair to grade an utility rather than the game itself. Of course the game got improvements (and it needed them) from the patch. But what Firaxis considers to be Civ 3's final version (1.07f) is what deserves to be graded.

102 votes and still going. Keep the votes coming in. The more votes, the closer to consensus we are.

After taking a dip, the ratings have taken another upturn. After 107 votes the average rating is at 7.56.

I gave the game an 8, and people consider me a fanboy. The game needs work, but I still like to play it.

                            I gave it 9.

No, its not a perfect game, but whats there is fun.
It certainly can be improved, but for a great deal of changes (balancing unit values/hp so tanks do beat spearmen) can be done by us, the fans.

Of course, other things like stack-movement will need Firaxis to implement.
I'm building a wagon! On some other part of the internets, obviously (but not that other site).

Note that as of the end of Dec 19 it's less than 10% that give the game less than a 5.

Note that it seems to be the same 5 or 10 (or fewer) posters who consistently slag the game.

                              Hmmmmmm.

                              Maybe there is a correlation.

Maybe there are just a few, very vocal, detractors.

While 118 voters are obviously not representative of the majority of the poly community, the average rating seems to be leveling out. It fell .04 overnight and seems to be stabilizing around 7.5. I will be going offline after today for awhile (holidays) and hope that this poll can be continued in my absence.

As someone pointed out, I think the Apolyton rating of civ3 is quite possibly, more important than what any single reviewer might thing. This place is the world hub of civilization online and its opinions on civ mean a lot. If firaxis wants a real rating, based on dozens of civ fanatics, they need look no further.

If this poll gets low, hopefully someone will bump it time to time. Surely we can get atleast another hundred or two opinions in the next week or two.
